Today

Just dropped the crank off to be ground and polished. I found a place just 2 minutes up the road that apparently specialises in engine work for the Holden Racing Team. The price was decent and they were quite familiar with the 7M so should be good.

Ian, I'd have followed your advice more closely on where to get the crank done but every time I'd make an attempt at getting up to Burwood, I'd fail miserably. Just too hard to get there quickly during work hours I'm afraid.

It works out much better that the 2 places doing my work deal very closely with each other and they're both within 5 minutes of work! Fingers crossed!

Picked up the crank. Down by 20 on the big ends (number 6 was pretty bad) and 10 on the mains.

No camera at the moment so pics later.

Today Part 2

Went down to the other machine shop to see when my block would be finished and was surprised to find out it's ready now! I asked him to pop another hole in the block for the front sump dipstick location and he did that at no charge. All set to start thinking about rebuilding now!

I'll be needing:
  1. O/S bearings
  2. rings (not O/S cause the cylinders came up good after a hone)
  3. All gaskets except for the head gasket
  4. The machinist recommended new freeze plugs - mine are OEM steel colored ones
  5. valve stem seals (which should come in a gasket set)
  6. At least one replacement connecting rod, as no1 looks to be toast

After that, I'll likely need a number of other items before even thinking about putting it back in the car! This is good to get out of the way though - tremendous weight off.

You can bet I'm going as "total tight-ass" as I possibly can. I couldn't use the pistons though, cause I'd end up with like 8:1 compression or something rediculous like that!

hehe in aust we got petrol, propane and now kero powered (not jet fuel) supras, who's going to make a diesil one to complete it? (the v16 frac pumps run 20psi at idle and when on the go at 2000rpm running 70-80psi. now if only you can get a 3mX1.5m engine in a supra bay)

I'm planning to install a "Mr Fusion" while I'm at it so I can run it on anything I want! ;)

It's the start of a revolution I tell ya!

Here's something a bit less exciting (Block in the boot of my car - not cleaned yet from machining):

This just in!

Rebuilding a 7M, even a stock standard, non-turbo, is freaking expensive!!!

It's going to cost another $400+ for gasket set, bearings and rings. Oi!!!

That's everything I need to put the engine back together though and is probably a fairly decent price (the gasket set is around $200 by itself).
