Crisp: If they're Stopper's they'll be 4 layer instead of 3.

Update!

Just got done cleaning the Viton off my New Stopper (13km's old)

Seems that the Viton will set up harder in use this new one I gave it a quick soak in paint thinner and the Viton scrubbed right off with a stiff brush!

Ian, What do you "prep" them with upon reuse? (How do you apply/treat them?)

(I'm due a pull-down for that sticky valve... and may try to reuse this round...)

Crisp: I wash them spotless with Paint Thinner then blow dry the layers before applying thin coats of Copper Spray right before I'm ready to drop the head on.

4 head studs and the dowels make this easier, you slide layer 1 onto the head studs and let the dowels locate it then repeat for layers 2 and 3 being careful that they align correctly.

If you get it wrong you'll need to peel them apart clean and repeat as the Copper acts like contact adhesive.

I just had to reuse my Titan 1.4mm MLS, and I tried everything.

1st tried CRC Non-Chlorinated Brakleen - lame results, more results from elbow grease/effort
2nd tried Easy-Off Oven Cleaner Heavy Duty - lame results same as above
3rd tried Paint Thinner as suggested early on in this thread by IJ (I believe) - lame results.
4th tried Acetone, and that did the trick, I could actually feel the Viton getting a little gooey as I scrubbed. Took quite a bit of work to get it all OCD clean but it worked.

Also ended up using almost a whole can of Permatex Copper gasket Spray getting propper and even coating on all layers with 2 coats on the gasket surfaces that mate to the block and head.

Seems like some Paint Thinners don't have a lot of acetone in them as one of the other guys was having the same problems.

I soaked mine im a shallow tray for 10> 15 minutes and the Viton washed off with a rag and almost no scrubbing.

Yeah, I can suggest that if purchasing from Pep Boys, use Acetone, not the paint thinner. Got it all back together, though. I had to get a Time Sert installed in plug #6 because some genious (myself) was a retard and didn't put Anti-Sieze on the plugs... Looks like it's time to put the CHT on #6, and install the EGT.

I'm actually scrubbing mine right now.

I've tried everything in the book from carb-brake cleaner,dot3 brake fluid, paint thinner, MEK, acetone, and standard lacquer thinner, lifteeze all paint/varnish/lacquer remover(fuckin burns skin!!) and the whole line of "Klean-Strip" products with shitty results.

I'm about 1/3 done at the rate of one side of a layer per 2 hours of scrubbing with Valspar industrial grade lacquer thinner(still shitty). The valspar includes acetone and toluene with some other chemicals and it's not doin too well.

I got a mask and chemical gloves on and my fingers are red and blistered from scrubbing for so long with minimal results....

Edit,
If you can get a hold of regal paint thinner, this what IJ used and apparently rubs right off DO IT!!!

I would but it's impossible to find if your not on the east coast because that is where they are located.

sucks.

Thanks :)!

Was thinking maybe some type of paint stripper/solvent then Paint thinner followed by Prepsol and a coat of Copper Spray!

Don't really want to hit it with anything abrasive or spinning just in case!

got some stuff at work you spray it on and wipe it off. I just lifts the viton after that clean and wipe with brake clean. Spray with copper spray their is one made by locktite it works well. Next secure the layers together with a small ziptie and install. Need some removing spray let me know

I tried brake cleaner, acetone, carb cleaner, purple power, paint thinner and many more other stuff and the viton just wouldnt come off..... I ended up taking the dangerous rout of using an oven whool scrub thingy with oxy... This worked kind of untill I for some stupid reason used my sisters nail polish remover.... By far the nail polish remover and the scrubbing thing worked wonders..... Once the viton was off I sprayed both sides of each layer with Copper Spray ( as instructed by Jdub) and it worked perfectly......
