writeup: MAFT Pro install for 7M-GE

______________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________________

Hey guys, I'm installing the harness for my Maft Pro right now and I've got everything connected how I THINK it should be, but I'd like confirmation on a couple things:

10 pin harness, wires NOT connected:
Purple, Orange, Grey, Brown

The ONLY wire CONNECTED on the 6 pin connector is #2 - Green

Do I need to connect any of these?

Thanks!!!

Okay, it's all installed.... now I just need to order some parts to fit the LS-1 MAF in there....

Damn that's easy to install.... now I gotta read up on all the settings.

Anyone know the Fout mode for a MK-III N/A?

What are the gains of putting this on a N/A ?

In my case it's to replace my AFM. I'm currently running on a borrowed AFM which has been "tinkered" with and runs poorly. Mine died a horrible death. I already had the MAFT Pro. I bought it some time ago when I had the $$$ for my future plans of going 1/2 NA-T. So given the option of another AFM which *might* not be sound, a new AFM for >$850 or a NEW LS-1 MAF for ~$70... I chose the $70 option.

Additionally, the N/A's AFM is TERRIBLY restrictive... Most people look at the outlet pipe and think it's probably got good flow and is about 2.5" in diameter all the way through. Well, it's not! The main bottleneck is right before the air exits the AFM, it's channelled through an opening 2" x 1.5"... terrible.

So, while I'm interested to see how this changes things on a performance level, I'm really doing it out of need and thrift. <---- NOT the need to drift. :3d_frown:

way to be bold and put this on your n/a,congragulations and good luck. Put it on a dyno let us get a baseline and then tune it and so we can see what you gain. Im contemplating on getting this and running it on my n/a but id wait till im till im boosted

As for dyno runs.... I may be so inclined in the future, but only if I've got the cash... right now there are too many other things I need to work on. For the time being I'm just going to be running on the base maps, no tuning. If I do go so far as dyno tuning before I throw on the turbo I'll be sure to dyno with a stock AFM for comparison.... but I'll need a known good one.

Right now, while I have all the wiring patched in and the harnesses run, I am not running the MAFT Pro. I need to get a Civic intake and a reducer... I've got to come down from a 3.5" MAF to the N/A's 2.5" TB.

if you have the maft pro why dont you run in speed density? the temp sensor and map sensor are less then 70 together...

Initial setup time. My car's my DD and I don't have time to mess with the initial tuning. I may switch over in the future... Not sure. Any way about it GM MAF or MAP both flow MUCH better than an N/A AFM.

a few notes on the NA install:

-use SW version 4.80, get it here: www.4cefed.com/maftpro/load480.zip

-use either of the 2 analog outputs for the NA MAF output (NOT freq out, pin 4 on the 10 pin connector) : analog 1 is pin 6 on the 10 pin connector, analog 2 is pin 7 on the 10 pin connector.

Excellent! Hopefully, I'll have a few minutes to hook it up and update the software this evening.

I'm assuming the correct selection for the N/A's Fout has been appropriately labeled?

Sux, that I'm still waiting on my intake piping and couplers... I'm dying to try this out.

you will set V Out mode for the MAF output. Set the correct one for the output you choose to use.

Set F-In mode for the correct MAF, be sure to change the Prescale jumper inside the unit, and set the unit for Translator Mode.

So, nothing needs to be connected to the 6 pin.

10 pin:
Yellow: MAF Input (the GM MAF runs on 12 volts, not 5 like the toyota's...)
Pink: +12v
Black: Ground
Blue: TPS (not strictly necessary in Translator Mode, but hook it up anyway)
Gray: V Out 2, use this for the MAF output, and set V Out2 Mode
White: RPM (connect to IGt)

Hey, thanks for the response Bob.

So pin 6 (Aux 1) is no good?

Jumper? What jumper? I presume this is something inside the MAFT Pro? Is this info already posted somewhere?

I believe I have everything else connected properly, but I've got pin 6 (Aux 1 - Brown) connected to my ECU's MAF line instead of the Grey line to pin 7.

Does the 4.80 manual offer more in the way of explanation as far as setting up the software in the Maft Pro? I read through the manual that came with mine a couple times and I'm still just guessing.

EDIT: Okay, wait I think I've got it... Nothing on the 6 pin harness needs to be connected anywhere? So I need to remove the bridge between the green on the 6 pin harness and the blue on the 10 pin harness?

Okay, so do I need to change out Aux 1 for Aux 2? Or will either work, as previously indicated?

DrJ., did you forward the settings I PM'd to you to Bob? Am I on track with those settings or am I a mile off?

You did... Just a misunderstanding, when Bob said to connect the Grey wire (Aux 2, pin 7) and nothing's connected to the 6 pin, I thought he meant nothing connects to pin 6 (Aux 1, Brown wire). After I realized he meant the 6 pin harness is unconnected I wanted to be sure that I was still fine with Aux 1 since he specified Aux 2.

So, I think I'm good on the wiring. Now I just need to look for the jumper, and try to get half a clue about the settings... I think the settings Bob specified match (for the most part) those that I PMed you. Just unsure of the others...

Okay, I finished with my HG last weekend. I've got all my intake piping and my MAFT Pro is wired in as indicated. I've set the prescale jumper to "on" as indicated in the manual for use with a 3.5" LS-1 MAF. The connection to the 6 pin harness has been removed. I've grounded the Fc line on the stock AFM harness.

When I start up the car I get ignition for only a second and then it falls flat. I believe it's being drowned, there's a VERY stong odor of gass after each attempt. The car will not run at all, not at idle or with throttle.

I checked for solid connections with all the wiring, and the MAFT Pro is powering up fine. Also, I don't know if it makes any difference, but if I run the car on the stock AFM with the MAFT Pro connected the car runs fine.

The settings I'm running are as follows:

CFG Settings (MENU):

Vehicle Select - Mode: 0
# of Cyl. - 6

TurboBob, Dr. Jonez, any ideas what I'm missing? I've got the day off tomorrow, so if possible I'd like to get this going then.

running 4.80? It can display the V-Out voltages on the LCD. We need to know what the VAF voltage is going to the ECU. Perhaps measure it, since you said that the car runs with the VAF connected (Pro connect also, or disconnected)

So I assume I just set the MAFT Pro to "SensorMonitor" and then select the line that says "RPM 0Vo1 0.28"? I'll run out and try it and see what the reading is.

Long list:
