Nice to see this coming together! This may be as popular of a swap as the 2JZ in a few years thanks to you.
I like the way you have been making the GM parts work, with quality pieces that will last, such as the clutch master firewall adapter bracket.

Can't wait to see it driving under it's own power! :bigthumb:

Cool, thanks! I'm trying to mod the parts that are less likely to need replacement. I'd love to see other Supras with this swap. There is a gentlemen working on a casted rear-sump pan. If someone would do a run of mounts, the thing would be bolt-in!

I'm also anxious to move it under it's own power. After getting the clutch bled, I was hurrying to tie up the trans mount and driveshaft. My ratchet slipped on a pinion flange bolt and nailed me over the left eye. Six stitches later...it's still on jack stands :3d_frown:

Oh, well. Soon...

Awesome job!

What fans will you use? And will the stock rad be enough to handle the bigger load?

I also have a question about transmissions. Do the AR5 or MA5 bolt to the 2jz with 1jz bellhousing? What clutch can I use?

Subscribed to this thread. This car is awesome.

Not sure on the fans. I think a stock radiator should be fine. The 4.2 puts out 291 HP - not that much more than a 7m.

Yes, you can bolt the AR5 to the 2JZ with the 1JZ bell. Assuming your AR5 came from a Solstice, you'd use the biggest GM clutch disk that you can fit with a 2JZ pressure plate and flywheel. When I was running the 7M with the AR5, I had a clutch disk out of a S10.

What about the MA5 (06 solstice) or 06 Colorado?

Sorry for the off topic questions.

Same thing. AR5 = Aisin model code. MA5 = GM RPO code.

Awesome. I found an 06 Solstice trans locally for $450, but I'm worried about the shifter location. I have an SC300 (w58 swapped from auto)

My w58 has the remote ('96+) shifter, and still it sits far forward. Would you guesstimate that the solstice trans would sit somewhat further back?

If that's the issue, the only problem I will have is the driveshaft (can elements of both be taken to make a hybrid? I dont want to pay 300 for a custom driveshaft, lol)

To go back on topic,

I think the HX52 would be much more suited for a 4.2L engine, and easier to find. PM me and I can let you know where to find one for VERY cheap.

Would you consider a front facing intake manifold?

The solstice shifter sits ~8" further back from a straight up R154/W58. IIRC, this is 2" further than nominal for a SC300. Might have to move the Ebrake, but I think it would go.

I think I paid about $300 for mine. And I'm planning on junking it. I want to get a shaft from a 4x4 Toyota Truck and bolt an adapter flange to it.

Easier than what? I don't recall seeing a map for the HX52, but I would guess that its close, being that the HX40 is a hair small. I already have a different turbo, but that's another thread ;)

You got one? It certainly wouldn't hurt the hood clearance any.

Well I know the remote shifter r154/w58 sit a few inches further back than the regular mk3 w58/r154. I'm just trying to gauge how much further it would be and if I'd have to do any modification to the shifter linkage. It would be difficult, as I don't know how to weld.

Can a canyon trans eliminate these issues?

Would you consider selling it instead of junking? I'm wondering what it would take to mate the front half of my sc300 driveshaft (I have an extra one) with an acceptable solstice slipyoke.

LOL nice. I'm using a hx52 on my build, and wanted a trans to take somewhere between 5 and 600whp, around 500tq. Hopefully the AR5 can do it.

Here's a map for the HX52:

The smallest map is an HX40
The standard high flow HX40 shows 80 or 60 lbs/min

The tallest is a "super 40" from Holset's aftermarket division.
The super 40 map shows a little over 90 for the "massflow perameter" or 68 lbs/min

The wide one is a Holset HX52
The HX52 is 115. This corresponds to 87 lbs/min.

There aren't any available aftermarket?

Also, is the 4.2L high-revving? Or does is have a long stroke? It should be beastly when you finish it.

Check out the discussion on page 6 here: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25024&page=6

According to me, the solstice shift sits 4" back from the stock soarer location. Isn't the Soarer the same thing as a SC?

The canyon trans is a step in the wrong direction. It is several inches forward of a standard supra style R154/W58

Of course, but you may not want it. The solstices don't use a slip yoke. They have a flange that pushes over about 1.5" of splines. The local driveshaft shops went tilt when I asked for a Toyota=>Solstice shaft, so I pulled the flange off and used a standard GM slip yoke. A real slip yoke has more like 3" of engagement. I'm afraid the torque of the 4.2 will strip the splines.

Well, we know that they'll take 400 ft-lbs because of the Mallet conversions.

Those are some good flowing turbos. I was planning on a HX40 for a while. I would've been fine for low boost. Then I became interested in the variable geometry turbos that are showing up on the latest diesels. The HE VGTs are badass, but require CAN communication to control them. I passed. I found a Garrett GT derivitive that is PWM controlled.
If you would have offered me a deal on a HX52 a few weeks ago, I would have jumped on it.

Lol, what aftermarket?

It does have a very long stroke: 102 mm. There are a few people pushing the redline up a bit, but you'd need custom cams to make it breathe. Custom cams are expensive :(
