Nothing short of astounding man...awesome sound whats the torque output of that damn thing.

Thanks, torque is 277 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm. The VVT really helps with the torque curve. It's at 250 lb-ft before 2000 RPM.

What an incredibly creative swap!! Subscribed!

I know its kind of cold out, but any updates?

Thanks, not much new. I want to get a radiator in before I do much else. I pulled a radiator and fan setup from a 89-94 Maxima. The dimensions are almost exactly the same as the Supra but with switched inlet/outlet locations and a nice dual efan setup.
It's just a hair too wide, so I have some "adjusting" to do.

Here's a bit of trivia...
Supra power steering pressure fitting: M16 x 1.5
Trailblazer power steering pressure fitting: M16 x 1.5

I'm starting to believe that this really is a 3JZ.

The Maxima rads are one of the best OEM rads out there, good choice. Why not also incorporate a Ford Taurus fan?

Ease of installation - I know that Maxima fans fit on the maxima radiator. Also I needed the whole package to be < 5" in depth. The Maxima is close. I considered checking out the Taurus, but didn't feel like venturing to the dark side (Ford side) of the junk yard.

Small update, working on fitting a radiator and fan setup from a 89-94 Maxima. The radiator has similar dimensions to the Supra but the outlets are crossed. Also, it's aluminum.

The fan shroud and fan mounts have taken a whole lot of adjusting, but it should go. The biggest part of the job is redoing the bottom mounts. The nissan isolators drop into the Toyota mounts, but are offset about 1". Tempted t use wire, I instead drilled out the spot welds, moved the mounts over, and re-welded. Sounds easy, but not very (you know, with an engine in the way and whatnot).

Here's the relocated mounts. From this angle, it's impossible to tell that they've been molested:

Nissan isolators drop right in like they're supposed to go there:

The view from underneath. Undercoat keeps the rust away:

Radiator and fans dropped in:

The whole setup sits about 1/4" taller than the Supra. Should be plenty of room to the hood (in this area at least). I used a portion of the Nissan upper radiator hose. I'll have to try the Trailblazer lower radiator hose. Need to fab upper mounts and wire the fans. Anybody know why there would be 4 wires to each fan?

Here's a bonus shot that shows the clearance on the passenger side. I literally have to remove the cam sensor connector because it's that close.
Also I cut a couple inches off of the coolant inlet to add clearance.

There may be 2 seperate circuits for each fan, as there are high and low speed settings. They are also triggered by AC in the maxima to run at high speed. I'll try and look up the FSM to check the wiring.

Absolutely not! I want people to think this is a stock engine when I pop the hood.

outstanding!

are you going to turbo it?

RotaryHead;1513739 said:
not turboing a 4.2l would be crazy

Agreed. One of the main benefits of an I6 over a V8 is the relative ease of turbocharging.

I want to get it up and running for a while, then think about how to best boost it.
