The iPhone will succeed at making money, just like everything apple now makes. It will do little to further or enhance the way people use their phones.

I dont see it as a smartphone, whatsoever. Its a SIMPLE, COOL LOOKING cell phone AND an iPod. THAT'S IT!

.....oh and it costs a whopping 600 dollars. But you wont care if you're buying one because you dont really care about value, but rather the fact that you own the cool, new, nice looking phone.

I'd like to play with this toy cuz I'm sure its pretty sweet, but I would NEVER consider spending even half that to buy it.

It may be an inferior product, but let's face it, most people are idiots still stuck in that "High School" mentality, they want something because it's cool, not because it works.

Oh, for you people wonder why an SD card slot and IR port are so good?

When on vacation I would put the camera's SD card in my phone and email pictures on the spot to my family.

I have a program on my phone that turns the IR port into a remote control. It conrols my projector for presentations, and i can change channels on the TV in the break room :)

Apple would never ruin the sleek case of the phone with a massive(yes its massive) SD card slot. Again with an ugly IR window, never happen. Look at apple laptops then compare to a Dell or something. All those ports just ruin the whole look and arent needed. Why use an SD card when you can just transfer over the wifi to your laptop. Or email the pics to somewhere or maybe USB. SD card is a waste of space and too much hassle.

I think all my phones have had an IR port and never once used it. Again, controlling the tv in the break room is an odd ball feature. Im guessing apple hopes your doing presentations with a mac running keynote, while using their remote for that.

This is a total waste of an argument anyways, views on this will never change. Theres always 3 sides to the apple camp Vs xxxx.
1: apple loyal fans love the products
2: people who just dont get it
3: the ones who buy it because its the new trend

I have a wide variety of technology I use everyday ('smart' phones not so much). I am not a loyalist to any specific brand. What I do see is that apple makes an effort to provide products that their customers really like. They also support their products well and make pretty reliable gear.

I don't have any problems "figuring out" some of the more complicated UI's (maybe complicated isn't really the right word, more like poorly conceived). But if an Apple product is intuitive and has all the features I want, I am going to choose it over another device that might have "extra" capabilities (as they would go unused). This is more a general statement than something specifically about the iPhone.

Most Apple naysayers haven't used an Apple computer in years (if at all). And if they did, they found it confusing because of its simplicity. I have 5 computers between work and home and none is more versatile than my intel-based powerbook.

Many of you guys are posting lists of features the iPod doesn't have. Without addressing whether or not those lists are factually correct, MOST of you have not tried this device out. If it truly does not offer something you need, then it is not targeted at you.

If you take issue with the price, I don't see why. It will sell for what the market will allow and will likely get cheaper over time. Apple's ability to make GREAT products has allowed them to set the market wherever they want. A good deal of development went into this product and even if it is overpriced (which I'm not positive I agree with) it is Apple's prerogative to make as much money as possible to cover the costs of this development. If that means cashing in on release hype, of course they are going to do it.

Someone please tell Apple to give its customers the pants back in the relationship....

On the news they just said they had to limit people to 2 iPhones. How the hell spends 1200 bucks on two phone-pods in one day and still wants another?

My Blackberry 8700 doesn't have all the cool multimedia features, but it's great for an internet business. There's all sorts of shortcuts on it that make it so quick to use.

The Apple Iphone, on the other hand, is marketed to people who don't even have anyone calling them but their parents. It's for kids with ADD who can't go for 2 seconds without hearing music or watching a movie. Why do people need a damn mp3 player on them at all times? Is their life that boring that they need to hear music all their waking moments?
