I personally see very little use in creating or editing office documents while mobile.

I dont

I have edited my resume on the fly and responded to client REAL TIME with an updated resume and none the wiser ;)

Hooray for my PocketPC based phone WITH bluetooth, wifi, Web browsing, IM'ing, MMS texting and SD card. And I think it still smaller than the Iphone is!

Again, you make the case over and over and over again that shinyness makes it superior to other phones. I for one think that the FEATURES are important, not the 'wow' factor. Sure its pretty - but when every review site out there is ripping the iPhone a new arsehole, you might stop and think 'maybe they have a point'...

I don't know if you're actually reading my posts or not :dunno: , but I have not argued once that the iPhone is "superior" to other phones.

The only point that I have been trying to make is that the iPhone is not a POS. If I hinted that the iPhone was superior in any way, it would have to do with styling and UI.

Many posts stated that the iPhone was basically a failure. My posts have been trying to explain another perspective. The iPhone can be useful for many, many people. While you guys think it is basically just a "pretty" phone without capabilities -- it is not so cut and dry.

I have agreed with many of the things the anti-iPhoners have said here: It does lack some capabilities that other serious smart phones offer. The main point is that, the iPhone is not targeted at a hardcore business user. I don't think that can be restated enough, as it's at the heart of this argument.

I think part of the problem here is that most "smart-phones" are given crap reviews by power-users but the average Joe reviewer may get all of the features out of their phone, and then some. Most PDA/Smartphones lack in some areas, especially when it comes to features vs what you pay.
The I-Phone lacks in areas that some of these other phones, which cost much less, feature. That being said, for professionals on the business front, this does not make sense, but the price is certainly aiming it towards those professionals who make a decent amount of cash. That makes this another "Gimmie gimmie" item that looks nice and costs more than it should. I get angry enough when I see a 10 year old with a cell-phone; can you imagine my rage if I see a kid with one of these?
If you guys want a good smartphone, the best reviews I have seen lately were for the T-Mobile Dash and the Cingular 8525. For other providers, I am not quite sure.

I don't know why the price is becoming an issue here. Clearly, the iPhone has sold big numbers in just a short amount of time.

Apple should lower the price so it is more in line with phones that have similar features? That doesn't really make sense. If a company can make a product that has high sales figures AND high demand, they can charge whatever they think they can get for them.

Yes, they will have to deal with people thinking they are overpriced, but if you can't understand why, you shouldn't be arguing.

I absolutely agree with many of the things you just said. But at the end of the post, you came right back to the same thing everybody else has been doing: comparing the iPhone with a business-class smartphone.

It was not marketed or sold as such. You are saying that it's price puts it in this category - that is false. What about $800 chrome nokia's? What about Bang and Olufsen phones? If you compare it to phones that sell based on design, the apple is an absolute bargain with a lot more functionality.

The reason that the chrome Nokias cost so much is because they are "the ultimate" multimedia platform in a small slider phone, they have a 5 megapixel camera and GPS system in them. Most business class "high end" smartphones are lucky to have a 2.0, and most feature a 1.3. This clearly shows higher quality and more innovative components jammed into a tiny package. Again, you are paying for a pretty little package, but this is something that only has a downside of price. If I was in the market for a digital camera and a good phone at the same time, I would consider saving and buying one of those, if it only had one more feature: a qwerty keyboard. Slashing $200~ off the price would help as well.

How about finally making a 2-button scrolling mouse in 2005? Winner!

I know apple didnt target people of buisness sense but for 600 you can buy a kick ass laptop that would make an iphone look like igarbage then a pocket PC is all you need for your phone and to complete your life why waste so much for a gimik

^People never learn. So many people think they're a smart guy now and will make a quick buck off of the newest gadget. It worked with XboX360 'cause no one was really doing it that much then. Those that did make a decent profit. Then people saw others do it with 360 and thought they'd be smart guys too and tried it with PS3 and that failed when every other person was selling one on ebay.

Why did they think iphone wil be any different. :stickpoke

The iphone failed on ebay because whats the point of buying one on ebay if you have to activate it with a service plan and shit anyways? You can't even use your old SIM card lol so of course it wont sell on ebay

Why would you think the iPhone would sell significantly over retail on ebay? Unlike other companies (sony and microsoft come to mind) Apple actually manufactured quite a few phones to meet demand. PS3's and 360's sold for so much more because they did not make enough systems to meet demand. All sony and microsoft accomplished was making their customers pay more than necessary and lining the pockets of ebay middlemen.

It goes without saying that the phone market is quite different anyway, so why compare? According to you, the iPhone is already overpriced -- so why would it sell for any more? Do you think that Apple cares that it "failed" on ebay? It looks to me as they priced it well, they are selling fast and for as much as possible -- Apple keeping all the profit.

Joe, I'd hardly say waiting in line to sell PS3's was a failure. Me and my roommate basically got 2 PS3's ( 60 gigs ) for free by having to friends stand with us. We sold both for right above $1200. I will say this though, next time it's all about reserves... the reserve tickets went for $2000+.

Selling the Wii's was exactly the same, we made double on 10 of them and kept the first one.

But like I said, everyone who plans on these types of things, RESERVE!
