I got to drive a Porsche 911 cabriolet with tiptronic once. It was a lot of fun.

I don't feel I deserved this animosity...
jdub said:Ok...I'll be honest. I have read more posts than I can count that say an Auto is a POS. When you said an auto is "designed for the driving challanged" and "autos FTL"...well, considering the capability of some of the auto equipped MK III's here (including mine), ignorant and clueless are just a couple of the adjectives that describe your posts considering the reality of what a built auto can do. And that does not garner respect in my book. Think about it...making comments like this...what should I have thought?
After reading this post (#38), it does appear you have a clue and more common sense than I gave you credit for. Typically, the auto bashers are inexperienced and their arguements do not hold water, but you have valid reasons for liking the manual. It's fine to say "I like my manual because...." or "I don't like the stock auto because..." But to make a comment concerning the driver based on the fact he/she drives an auto...well, you know my feelings on that one.
Understand the auto has it's place and in many respects will out perform a manual. The big difference I see is the cost...the manual is a lot more bang for the buck. And I'll be the first guy to tell someone that if they are on a tight budget.
Got news for ya dude...there's a lot of people out there that talk on a cell working a stick shift too. I do agree that talking on a cell for any length of time

To all you other bastahds, quit hijacking muh thread! Automagics suck, because OP says so! :icon_razz
No, seriously, I know the fastest guys are running automatics. But I have to admit, I have WAY more respect for the guy clicking off the low 8s on a 6 speed, vs the guy clicking off low 7s on an auto.
No leaking now, though. If it starts again, though, I swear to God I'm ripping it out, throwing it as far as I can, and putting my r154 in.
I gotta get a spot set up to disassemble it, first though. I'd like to replace the seals and all, if possible, before tossing her in

I am not going to tell you that you are wrong. Because it is your opinion. But I will tell you mine. You're wrong. :biglaugh:supra90turbo said:I, for one, DO need a clutch. It just gives you that much more of a human/mechanical relationship.

swaq said:That being said... Maybe someone didn't tell you, but there are other types of racing besides drag racing. Some racing even involves corners *gasp*. In other types of racing automatics are not necessarily the best.
I don't know about you, but one of my favorite parts of driving is going around corners and having an automatic that shifts up when I let off the gas around a corner just kills the joy for me. No instant power when I get back on the gas as I have to wait as the transmission downshifts back to the gear I wanted to be in the whole time.

jdub said:Hmmm...this is not saying Automatic are "crappy" or do you think that just because you can actually coordinate your left foot with your right hand that makes you a superior human :squirt-mo I'll bet you can actually walk and chew gum at the same time too.
Got news for ya dude...there's a lot of people out there that talk on a cell working a stick shift too. I do agree that talking on a cell for any length of time (unless on a hands free) is stupid. But to say it's the people that have auto trannys is rather narrow minded. I for one do not talk on a cell while driving. Making a blanket statement like that is like saying "drugs are all over high schools so all teenagers use drugs"...another stupid blanket statement.
The only thing I've got to prove is the ignorance of your assertion in your orginal post. I don't own a pure race car, but it does have a built A340E. I can shift it...in fact I intend to install an F1 type paddle shifter. Built and tuned correctly, an auto will out class a manual hands down. I can shift on command, power brake, spool the turbo way better from slow speeds and keep the RPM in the boost curve...why don't you educate yourself before you open your trap.
No...you just implied all of the above. If your not saying this what are you saying? People that drive automatics are not coordinated enough to handle a manual? Autos cause cell phone usage driving? Kinda lame on the cause = effect logic here don't you think?
Trust me...I've got far more experience "turning & burning" than you could ever hope to have in your lifetime. More than just cars too
Got news for ya...a tiptronic/paddle IS an automatic. This just illustrates you do not have a clue about the advances in drivetrain technology for our cars. It's ok for you to enjoy driving a manual...but, putting down an auto with insults is FTL. If you're going to make a point, at least have a clue what you're talking about.
If autos were so great them why is the latest trend with auto makers seem to be going with what is basicly a semi-?auto?
and in the next breath...yall made it a little personal and took it to heart
driving a manual requires skill and sports cars usally are intended for those who are applying their skills while driving... autos are great for beginner drivers, the elderly , lazy people and people who view driving as something you have to do to get from point A to point B. Its nice that your car chirps in second gear so will a 92hp Honda when it breaks traction too.
