I am sorry to hear about your problems, but it should not make you hate autos, just the one you are having problems with. I am sure once you get it all fixed, you will like it. I am not a fan of autos, but I do repect them. I am not a drag racer, but if i was, I would def. go auto....they just go! I like to road race and for me manual is my choice, but that does not make me think any less of autos, they are just not my cup of tea.

Manual transmission ftw. There is no substitute for me. Drag racing is the only use for an auto as far as i'm concerned.

Everything I'm interested in, auto sucks at.

Some things said shouldn't have been. :nono: Some VERY rude and inconsiderate people on these boards. Almost starting to sound like SF. :(

Anyways, It's very clear that if you are going for a quarter mile (or straight line race car, FTM), it's obvious that Automatic takes the win. NO arguments. ESPECIALLY if it's a Turbo Auto with a bunch of boost on the line.

If you Auto X, DRIFT, or do any other types of road racing, A Manual car is definately FTW. :D Assuming there are a bunch of curves and slow downs, you have your clutch foot and shifter hand to control your RPMs going in and out of turns. This is probably the 42857193587297th Thread I've been part of that is just a huge argument over Auto/Manual and which is better.

YES, My Supra is an Auto, YES, I love it.
NO, it doesn't shift slow. YES, My setup is for 1/4 mile.
I don't plan on taking my car to some JDM MaD TyT3 y0 DoRiFT0 competition....So My Auto satisfies my needs and most importantly, I TAKE CARE OF IT.

90% of Automatic Transmission Failures are a result of overheating.

Automatics FTL. :icon_razz

Hmmm...this is not saying Automatic are "crappy" or do you think that just because you can actually coordinate your left foot with your right hand that makes you a superior human :squirt-mo I'll bet you can actually walk and chew gum at the same time too.

swaq said:
They also have the annoying side effect of allowing people to talk on their cell phone while driving. I once read an ignorant quote from a guy who said, "It's not that hard to drive with one hand" in defense of talking on a cell phone while driving.

Got news for ya dude...there's a lot of people out there that talk on a cell working a stick shift too. I do agree that talking on a cell for any length of time (unless on a hands free) is stupid. But to say it's the people that have auto trannys is rather narrow minded. I for one do not talk on a cell while driving. Making a blanket statement like that is like saying "drugs are all over high schools so all teenagers use drugs"...another stupid blanket statement.

swaq said:
Wow, looks like you got something to prove. I was talking about for street cars, not race cars.

The only thing I've got to prove is the ignorance of your assertion in your orginal post. I don't own a pure race car, but it does have a built A340E. I can shift it...in fact I intend to install an F1 type paddle shifter. Built and tuned correctly, an auto will out class a manual hands down. I can shift on command, power brake, spool the turbo way better from slow speeds and keep the RPM in the boost curve...why don't you educate yourself before you open your trap.

swaq said:
1. I said nothing about automatics being slower.
2. I also did not say automatics were crappy.
3. What I did say is that automatic transmissions tend to make more drivers yak on their cell phone while driving

No...you just implied all of the above. If your not saying this what are you saying? People that drive automatics are not coordinated enough to handle a manual? Autos cause cell phone usage driving? Kinda lame on the cause = effect logic here don't you think?

swaq said:
That being said... Maybe someone didn't tell you, but there are other types of racing besides drag racing. Some racing even involves corners *gasp*. In other types of racing automatics are not necessarily the best.

I don't know about you, but one of my favorite parts of driving is going around corners and having an automatic that shifts up when I let off the gas around a corner just kills the joy for me. No instant power when I get back on the gas as I have to wait as the transmission downshifts back to the gear I wanted to be in the whole time.

Don't forget that there are ways to have just as fast shifts with non purely automatic cars. I'd take F1 paddle shifters or a tiptronic system over an automatic any day.

Trust me...I've got far more experience "turning & burning" than you could ever hope to have in your lifetime. More than just cars too ;)
Got news for ya...a tiptronic/paddle IS an automatic. This just illustrates you do not have a clue about the advances in drivetrain technology for our cars. It's ok for you to enjoy driving a manual...but, putting down an auto with insults is FTL. If you're going to make a point, at least have a clue what you're talking about.

No...I had money banked away to do it and at the time was just starting to move. Needless to say, All sort of problems started popping up and with Chi2k6 coming up, I had to stash money for that too.

I was introduced to American-Style 10 cent packaged Ramen & 33 cent Burrito's for a few weeks because I was so tight on money.

Sorry Brutha. Whatever idea you come up with next, I got your back. ;)

Supra Bra's=bad idea. Supra guy would finally get his his girls shirt off, she'd have on the supra bra and he'd be more interested in that than what lies beneath lololol

I was thinking like a white flexfit hat with just the MKIII style logo stitched into the front :) Only downside to this is, the only embroidery guy I know that does a DAMN good job, takes about 6 months to get the hats done :( Think our members have that much patience?

Hmmm. If you forewarn us ahead of time that it would take that long, I'm sure you'll still get buyers. Half a year, though? Holy crapola.:aigo:

Agreed with "Jeff" :D

I have no interest in drift/auto-x/road racing as it damages the car a lot and drifting is lame IMO.

 w. t. f.? I wasn't trying to change your opinion, sir. Just stating that you are in fact, an ass clown. Saying an automatic is for the driving challenged is like saying that using an impact gun is for the ratchet challenged. once again I say :umno:

I said that automatics were designed for the driving challenged. Not that the people who use them are necessarily challenged. Besides, I was trying to be funny with a little exaggeration.

On the topic of driving while on your cell phone: Some people have business lives they need to take care of that require being on the phone. Should they always do it while driving?-probably not, but if a call comes in, sometimes you have no choice but to answer it. On this note, ever heard of a hands-free headset?

I only feel that having an automatic encourages people to talk on the cell when they don't necessarily have to.

Already addressed above. I'm not saying there's anything necessarily wrong with driving an auto...

Again, I'm just saying autos can encourage cell use by making it easier.

So I'm uneducated now because I prefer driving a manual over an automatic. Pure performance isn't the only thing that makes driving enjoyable to me. Also, once again, I was trying to be funny (guess I wasn't...) with the exaggeration.

I said "non purely automatic" because I knew tiptronic/paddles are a form of automatics, but they are also in a different class because of the way they let you choose gears. You seem to be jumping to the conclusion that I am ignorant. Looks like you just want to make this a pissing contest.

To everyone/anyone. Am I completely out of line here? Were/are my posts ignorant and clueless and being an ass clown? Do I have no respect on this board? Honest answers would be appreciated, thanks.

I don't feel I deserved this animosity...

I used to be auto. Auto N/A = slow. I am enjoying my W58. Had it for about 6 weeks now and its a hoot.

The automatic made life easy but I like the feeling of being connected to the road. Its had for me to drive an automatic now =]
