I have an hx40 on my 89 and all I can say is sold...there ain't no way in HELL that someone can tell me
Those turbo are crappy. I have a simple setup ...stock manifold with ct26/ t3 adapter, hx40 with bulleye .71
Bep turbine housing and hks 40mm wastegate with 10psi spring. Now when I say this car hauls ass that exactly
That. Boost kicks in at 4000rpm which makes it really dangerous to drive in rainy weather.
But other than that I love driving my mk3. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Holsets crappy???? Hmm they are factory turbos on work trucks with a great track record ...... doesn't that say enough? When are you going to push it closer to the 20psi range?

I'm trying to run an HX/HY35 or HX40 on my new 2JZ setup. Biggest problem is the turbine housing.. I'd REALLY like a T4 footprint and a 3" vband outlet.. what's the closest I can get to this w/minimal modification? I'm getting a new full exhaust system including T4 manifold that I'd REALLY like to not modify..

I scanned over the thread but honestly I may have missed some info. I've been googling for hours though.

Thanks for any help.
Mike

Mike, my HX40 I just picked up has a 17cm^2 (~1.29A/R) housing stock with T4 divided inlet but a 4" vband outlet

I'm currently piecing together a whole new set up with an HX35.
I'm going to fabricate a front facing intake manifold, and remove at least two feet of piping. That should increase my throttle response nicely.
I'd like to do exactly what NTRA08 did with his Turbo manifold (CT26 to T3 adapter). I'm in the process of modifying my manifold right now, but I've still got a lot to do as far as the turbo set up. I still don't even have a wastegate or blow off valve, and I can't finish my manifold until I know what flange to use for my wastegate.

Plans?:
-7MGTE
-HX35
-FFIM
-24x12x3 Intercooler
-Wastegate at 14-18lbs (still doing research, but I'm aiming in that range)
-Stock 440cc Injectors (for now, until I run into a problem)
-MK4 TT Fuel pump?
-Coil-on Plugs
-AFM delete/Megasquirt?
-MHG/ARP Studs
-Ported head

There may be some things I'm forgetting, but I'm aiming for around 450 whp/tq. Hopefully more Torque than Power. If I'm unable to afford Megasquirt, then I'll just use my Lexus MAF, and run an SAFC. But, either way I'm convinced that I could make good power on a reliable tune.
I'm currently on a 60-1 CT26 which has proven to make over 400whp easily, but unreliably. My turbo seals blew after 2000 miles (on the turbo) running 8psi, and the condition of my turbo is just getting worse and worse with time. The thing I love about Holsets is the fact that they're seemingly bullet proof, and even if one DOES manage to blow a Holset, it's not too difficult to find a rebuild or replacement. I'll let you guys know how the build goes, but it won't be for a while, that's for sure.

so this is when i got the car all put together and it was running sooooo strong. 10psi from a ct26 and 10psi from an hx40 is like night and day. OMG that car pulls and spools so fast, i sware i'm not changing my turbo ever. like they say, don't fix it if it ain't broken.

i know thw engine bay is crappy but all that will be changing very soon!

your gate seams to be pretty far away and may have issues controlling boost

NOPE! th boost is right on! the manifolds from bay that 80% of supra owners uses has longer waste gate runners than my setup has!

i didn't pay anything really! it was a trade for something a friend needed! but they are still around! they usually cost around 270 to 300 yeah not cheap but it spools like a monster. just do a search for bullseye bep turbine housing. also call or email slowboy racing ( slowboyracing.com )

awesome. yeah 300 isn't bad. for 600 bucks I'll have a hard hitting, high hp capable, quick spooling turbo. when I add FFIM, head work, built bottom end with raised compression, T4 manifold w/ SP QSV, it should be super quick spool
