Already investigated it like half a year ago :) Though haven't bothered actually doing the process, as some people say it's really pointless.
Who cares about the air there?? One guy once asked whether I have some rocket-system or something in my car :D

Because it could escape and get into other parts of the cooling system and cause a heat pocket?

And if after you bleed it, the problem comes back, you know you have something to worry about. It's like you're ignoring a diagnosis tool imo.

that is a weep hole on the front timing cover. seems like one of your seals needs to be replaced if in fact it leaks out that hole. it is either the front main seal or the oil pump driveshaft seal. replacing them involves removing the head so this may not be a job you want to tackle on your own being it's your first Soup

Why do you say this? I really don't think you have to take the head off. Can you prove that you do?

Chris Brown:

If you're asking what the button that looks after market is that has been put in the steering column shroud, its for that after market alarm that has been installed. (poorly installed from the look of it)

If that's not what you were asking 'bout, disregard :)

when my dad was helping me build mine and he installed the oil pump driveshaft seal the lip got ripped and it leaked oil out that weep hole.

the hole is there so that when you do get a leak it seeps out and does not fill the timing belt area with oil.

you do have to remove the head because it overlaps the rear timing cover which is where the seals are.

my dad tried that too and all he managed to do is fold the part of the head gasket that overlaps and tore it all to hell

mannnnnn.

i've got a feeling this isnt good

i got home, came inside then decided to go check for oil again. 30-45 mins passed i guess.

i got under and this is what i saw
p1019528_1.jpg

p1019528_2.jpg

it looks like the oil is not coming out of the weep hole, rather,

p1019528_3.jpg

dripping down from wherever, running along the metal till it hits the weep hole, with the weep hole being the lowest point on the block (?) it then sits there till it gets too heavy and falls to the ground. That part is oily but unfortuantly it didnt show up in the picture

p1019528_4.jpg

sooo.
.......

good news is that i burrrlly passed smog today!

Check these photos out.

Why would you have to take the head off when the seals are easily accessible by just removing the lower timing belt cover?

First things first use the Napa block tester and get that out of the way. If no BHG then you can proceed to fix other minor issues.

Have you done it yet? we're waiting......

If no BHG you may proceed...
I recommend you focus on safety issues first, brakes, glass, lights, gauges. Then move to maintenance items, belts, fluids, hoses, etc. Then finally worry about your cosmetic issues. No sence in having a perfect looking Supra that is unsafe or unsound to drive.

That oil could be dripping down from the distributor, that is a common leak and an easy fix. Try to find the source by tracing it back up the block. If you need to you may have to do some cleaning so you can see the fresh drippage. A minor oil leak is more of a pain than anything so long as you keep a good eye on your level. Compared to gasoline oil is cheap and you can afford to leak a few drops so dont panic. That being said however it is preferable to find and fix the leak.

As for your mouldings, I dont know of any way to repair the early model version. You will probably have to find replacements if you want them all looking right. Try the for sale section here, alot of guys "upgrade" to the later model mouldings and have the old set for sale.

For the door panels, you can actually just move over the leather insert part of the panel if you prefer. The leather inserts have a tendency to yellow and in my opinion look older than the cloth ones when worn.

It looks like you have a nice clean example of a first year mk3. Welcome to Supramania, the best mk3 site period!

lol i guess my memory is not as good as i thought it was.

i just called my dad and he reminded me that the reason we took the rear timing plate out was cause it was cracked and we did the seals while we were at it

i had it pictured in my head that the seal stop was in front not behind it

shouldve known better:nono:

i havent got around to the NAPA test yet since its been only a day and i dont have the tools necessary to do it. Im a bit dishearted because we just had the intake removed and all the spark plugs out to change them, it would have been ideal to handle that at that time...butt..i guess thats how it goes.

I parked it at my friends house and got under to see where exactly it was dripping from. its not near the weep hole as i suspected but it was falling from the oil pan (i think?) i dont know if that changes anything or not..

They started troubleshooting why my dash went out today. The switch for my lights/turn signal is broken so we'll be replacing that as well. As soon as i figure out what that flowing liquid noise is and fix it, then replace the timing belt, the engine should be in perfect health. As is, all my friends say it sounds great and runs great, but i get an idea of how decieving that could be.

and i heavily agree on supramania being the best mkiii site ever. I defiantly like how it is focused on the mkiii rather than the mk4. The members are all really helpful. Its down.

took it into the shop due to oil leakage. they have no reason to believe its a BHG and i dont think they got to the NAPA test.

I found a nice 87 NA on craigslist for 2600 obo. has a fresh jdm 7m-ge with 55k on it and a bunch of other new stuff. If i can talk to this guy and see if he still has it or if it looks like its gonna go out the door quick or what, i think im going to try and sell the 86.5, break even/take a small hit and pick up the 87.

for timing belt, cam seals, (they think its leaking from there) and some other stuff it's gonna be 481. I need new hatch shocks, im missing the plastic piece that goes under the steering wheel, AC still doesnt work, interior's decently dirty. Theres just stuff, and too much of it that i really want to deal with...specially if timing will work out with me being able to pick up an 87 with 55k on the motor

too much money
mad monies.

not that i cant essentially afford it, but it would make me really super poor. that, and, if i can get away with selling it and picking up this 87 NA that seems to be in better condition, why, that sounds all the more smarter.

eventually that motor will need to be rebuilt too(unless it's been rebuilt recently)...besides, they say mk3 owners are poor people so you might as well get used to that feeling if you plan to keep an mk3.
