yeah...i like expensive things to either be to compact to be easily damaged or easily visible so a random act of carelessness doesn't cause their demise... i'd probably let this thing get hidden in papers accidentally and then smash it with something heavy I set on my desk.

I'd destroy that.

Panasonic Toughbook FTW.

I think that the aluminum case that it's built out of, would out last most of these plastic laptops out now. And you can get it fully solid state. No florescent bulbs to break, on certain models no hard disk to jack up. to external drives to fail. almost no moving parts. I bet it proves to be a pretty tough little book.

-Also pretty powerful for such a small package.

-1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Merom, with 800 MHz FSB or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo and 4MB of L2 cache

-2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2

-Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory. This chip has 128 programmable shader units amongst other things, and is DX10 compatible for those with boot camp.

The only really slow thing I see is the hard drive.

All this with a 5 hour battery life, not to bad. Sadly the battery is not user replaceable. I can understand this concept with the iPod(but I don't like it), but this is retarded with a notebook.

Worst thing is the price tag, but with apple sky high price no longer surprise me, only cause me to shake my head.

Apple is made for Fashion Queens.

Who cares about durability? You're never going to keep a computer that long anyway. When was the last time you retired a computer due to wear? Ya, right.

Who cares about power? Last time I checked, Word, Firefox, and Outlook don't take much processor muscle. Oh, you want to play Doom? WTF are you buying a laptop for, then?

Modern day computers are a wonder of marketing hype.

100000000% correct.

It's their target market. The "hip" people buy apple stuff.... and then replace it within 1-3 years because the old one broke or its not cool anymore.

**I do think its cool, but its definitely aimed at fashionistas

Only aimed at image-conscious people, eh Andy? So you mean, basically everyone in LA? :biglaugh:

Yes sir. :)

I kinda like some of the new Apple stuff, but I have to give people shit about them. I think because a lot of the people that i know that have macs think that the macs are better because they're simpler. They kept getting lost in windows explorer. :nono:

Of course, I'm no comp sci major and I realize they are now rather capable machines. But I'll always give apple owners shit for being a part of the techno-"in-crowd". :)

am i gay for wanting one?

Not for that reason......I just kiddin CK

Honestly, I think it's pretty nice. It would be nice to have a laptop that small and lightweight, yet outperform a lot of laptops out there. It would be good for traveling.

But, I once read an argument between a PC owner and an Apple owner....

Guy1 - "Name one thing that your PC can do that my Apple can't!"
Guy 2 - "Right click"

Even though they can "right click" now (still one button), I still think about that argument everytime I see an Apple computer.

The mouse argument will never go away. Ive been an exclusive apple computer user for the past I dunno 8 years and can never go back to windows. As for the mouse I say it over and over, you can plug any USB mouse into a mac and it will work with all buttons. You can Right click all you want and get the same contextual menus pop up as you would on windows.

I prefer,
'name 1 thing your pc can do that my apple cant'
'crash'.

I have an old g4 desktop, 2 laptops and an old iMac none of which get powered off or sleep. None of them have crashed or been restarted other than software updates in the past 3 years Ive been at my current house. I have a machine running some flavor of XP and every time I use the thing (sony dvd ripping) it needs restarted or rather restarts itself.
