The receipts are a huge pivot point in this whole case, Justin. Good on you for keeping them to show what your car is really worth, not just what Blue Book says it is.

Take all reciepts to the insurance company when it is time. They will try to offer you a shitty amount of money based on average retail, not what you have in it.

I was hit once. They told me something stupid like 2000 (which was what I paid for the car), but in the end convinced them to 3700. It was that or they can pay the repair bill, which will be far more. They do not want to fix it, the insurance company wants to offer you a settlement.

I never wanted to total all my reciepts because I was afraid of seeing how much I really put into the car, but I made an exception in this case...
The rough total, including the cost of the car came to about $6400.
I have reciepts for about 6200 of that. (My interior was swapped out of a car in the parts yard, no reciept.)
That doesn't include the time and labor that me and my dad put into, which wouldn't mean shit to them anyway.

Thats what fake labor receipts are for! but yeah they will still try to talk you down. Youd be pretty amazing to squeeze 6200 out of the insurance company, they are such cheap bastards. Isnt the point of insurance in case someone crashes...they should expect to have to pay for things when someone does. I dunno why they have to give everyone such a hard time about money, being that thats what you PAY them for!

I'd rather get money than jail time, lol.

And here's something else that's fucked up.
I get a call this morning from a good friend.
He tells me that on his way to work, about a mile from where I got hit, he watches ANOTHER NAPA truck hit a ford escort head on at a 4 way intersection.
So today, I go to pick up a friend, and at the SAME EXACT intersection, I look in the mirror and there's a NAPA truck behind me.

What the fuck is going on?

I think NAPA actually stands for "No Automobile Proficient Associates".
hahahaha.
Did you do something to NAPA?!

I'm really sorry to hear about this man.
Right after you got it out too.
Keep your head up, sue them both, get some money, fix, or get a new supra, and swap the motor in, and have some extra cash for spendin :)

Adding you on myspace... (vondermosh)
Good to see another supra owner into hardcore.

I would try and see what you can negotiate with NAPA
s ins co before you hire a lawyer. Just make sure they understand that YOU understand that you have the upper hand here, you have a negligent driver, and yes NAPA is 100% on the hook for what the driver did as long as he was working when he hit you. You are due more than just the money you are out. If this thing went to court they would be looking at spending a LOT more money than they are going to offer you up front. And if you don't take it, they are going to make crap up about how you have to take it or some other B.S.

My advice, talk to a lawyer (surely you have one somewhere in the family) that way you can tell the insurance company that you have spoken to a lawyer, that you want to explore non-litigation resolution, but that you are fully prepared to go to court if needed. Again, the insurance company is going to try and offer you blue book on the car and like someone else mentioned 2x your bills. You can take this and make the insurance company very happy, or you can press them on it and explain that this in no way takes into account the hardship, pain, general pain in the ass to deal with, blood sweat and tears put into a rebuilt car, etc, etc, and that you don't want to have to get a lawyer involved and draw this thing out (thats another thing they are going to tell you, that if you sue it will take "x" (probably a year) to get your money if this goes to court.... well they are technically correct, but they sure as hell don't want it to go to court anyways, cause that cost them a lot more, so leverage it and say you are aware of the time involved, but that you don't have to have the money right now (e.g. parents are floating you pending collection, etc...)

Basically don't let them make YOU feel like you are doing something wrong here, they make money by getting people to agree to small settlements, don't let them push you around, and don't be afraid to confront them, you are in the right here.

Sorry about your loss supra bro, been there about one and a half years ago in my previous sup.
Glad to see you doing ok!
Car can be replaced, just play the game right with ins co. and sue them for as much as you can, set your numbers high and go from there.

Red Dragon - Thanks man. All this info is great to have on hand.
My uncle is really getting into the situation too, he's got a 70 Chevelle and he's been like my older brother as far as car advice and stuff. He made it quite clear to me today that I pretty much have them by the balls at this point, and he said exactly the same thing as you, that I'M the one in control of the situation and I'm the one with the leverage to get what I need out of this.

I picked up the police report today, found out the guy who hit me is 78 years old!

We had been wondering why it was taking so long with all the insurance stuff...
Came to find out the other day that nobody even reported an accident to their insurance! They never called their insurance company, so now we have to wait until Monday to hear from the adjuster and see when she can come to our house.

true...but its all up to what the lawyer or his assistant negotiate with the insurance adjuster....its a real mess cause the lawyer wants to go higher and the adjuster wants to go lower...and on top of that....the lawyer will take as much money as they can in bullshit fees....hope all goes well...keep us updated
