John -
I'll let you know on the 'notchyness' of a built 154 this weekend (built by marlin). With the NM shifter, total throw is ~3" which isn't really going to help the 'feel'. Cold shifting it feels really tight - nothing like a stock box.

T5 = smooth???? tko3550 is waaaaaaaaaaay smoother (had both) and a lot more fun. I know you know this.... :)

Yeah, I know - if the r154 is really that notchy after I get it back together, I'll be looking to do a T56 swap over Christmas break :)

Hope you're prepared to hack the Trans tunnel between the seats and possibly move/change them. :(

You better believe it! :D Now that I'm through with Calculus 2 (THANK FUCKING GOD) I have a few weeks to dedicate to the Supra - one of my big projects to finish, is the rebuilding of my R154 to prepare of the 5 speed conversion.

Trying to decide on what I want to do about the thrust washer, though!

Marlin Trans + NM shifter gets a big

I only have 7miles on it so far, and while its still not as nice as a 3550, its still a huge improvement over stock.

Back to you regularly scheduled programing....

Duane, if it breaks, I'm going 4.10 + T56 - no question, there :D

Gah, I'm finally catching back up with life, so I can get back to work on my SUPRA! I'll be working on it more after this Thursday, as I've taken 2 weeks off of work :)

Ok, so my aluminum radiator is set to arrive this weekend. I'll get back to work on her then. In the meantime, I'm preparing for my move (going into my new place on the 17th of August)

Why am I moving?

2.5 stall garage, with the 1/2 stall set up as a workshop. Ohhhh yeahhhhh, I can't wait! No more working in the yard and having code enforcement getting pissed at me :D

Really? Damn, that's strange - the one T56 (in a GTO) I drove, was buttery smooth, just like the T5 in my '88 Camaro was.

I've NEVER driven an R154 Supra, though - so we'll see how it goes once it's back together ;)

It's not as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. It's not buttery smooth, but if people think they are notchy, then they need to get out and start driving more manual cars, because believe me, there is much worse out there. ;)

You know, maybe I should get him to let me take that thing for a spin and try out the R154 in person :naughty:

Gonna try to get by the shop tomorrow, so I can get back to work on my tranny rebuild!

Man, that SC300 of your brother's is pretty damn sweet! So that's what a 1JZ turbo looks like, eh? Clean, I must say. Not the hose/wire/piping clusterfuck of the stock 7M!

Just a small update - dropped the mainshaft at Jeff's dad's shop, to press the #5 and #1-#2 gears off (from the r154) - hoping to get the tranny back together, before I move on the 17th!
