I replaced the stem seals I had to re use two old ones in good condition because somehow the top part of the new ones came off. Tomorrow I will get to cleaning the EGR cooler, replace that gasket, remove the crank pulley and change the timing belt and tensioner, then pretty much slap on the head gasket and head with the ARP studs.

You do need to check the clearance and make sure they match the numbers I posted earlier. Otherwise compression will not be good. Trust me, it's worth it.

get appropriate sized shims. they can be bought from the dealership for some ridiculous price, or you can get them for $6-8 for a pair at cylinderheadsupply.com

Yeah, if you can't shuffle them around to get the numbers right, you can get them at the dealership. Ours charges $12 each... Gets spendy if they all need replaced. Luckily I have an extra head and 24 extra shims :) but I still have one side of the head to do...

I let it sit for half an hour or so and sprayed it down and spent time with carb cleaner and a wire brush cleaning the exhaust and intake ports and EGR cooler and replaced that gasket. I should mention after I sprayed it down I used a leaf blower to blow off as much water as possible.

ahahah yea it worked very well it blew the puddle of water and degreaser mix around the spark plug and dried it right up. It didn't do much to get rid of the residue from the old gasket but it shouldn't affect anything since I can't feel them with my fingers right?

Depends on the type of head gasket you want to use. If it's metal then you want mill the head. If composite or what not then shouldn't matter I've heard. I've milled mine and going with a metal HKS.

I have a composite gasket I have no need for a metal one anytime soon lol. I also heard and have been told with composites you don't have to be anal about the surfaces.
