I am practically done, there is some smoke coming from under the turbo but it smells like the pb blaster and engine degreaser burning off or it is most likely that doesn't smell like anything I should worry about yet. I just have to bend the oil dipstick bracket upward a little bit so it can seat properly but that is a real pain to bend it that way. I tried sealing up the thermostat housing leak with seal packing and it's working but the water finds some nooks and crannies to get through. Trying to find an MK3 at a junkyard in Houston is difficult lol I found one MK3 at a junkyard near me and it's pre 89 for sure but it's been picked clean. I need to either get one from here or go junkyard hunting one day but I might just leave the car alone for awhile and get a new thermostat housing and a few misc interior pieces I need like the master window switch and a blue coin holder since the lid on mine pops up randomly, sometimes it's hilarious and others annoying lol.

It seems the switch from rotella 15w-40 to castrol 5w-30 is the cause of my oil leak from the Turbo, so I'll switch back to rotella

I need help finding a part number for the gasket that is leaking oil from the turbo oil pipe, I circled it in black.

Judging from my search the gasket shouldn't cost more than $5 but i've been wrong about that before lol. Either way I need the part number for it otherwise I'll just go to the dealer and find it there.

Very common gasket to leak....and it's another one of those real pain to change while everything's in :(. I had picked one up from the local parts store myself, just asked for a turbo oil feed/drain gasket on the turbo side and they figured it out. I'm having a hard time finding the part number for just that gasket too.....though I found the full turbo replacement and everything else around the exhaust manifold :icon_razz

EDIT: I think I found it

labeled 15471

That is a Toyota specific part number. They might have something they can cross reference it with, but not necessarily. That's also only part of the part number....it will have a first half as well. I'm a noob at reading the EPC so I don't know what it is but it will be something like 90179-08059.

So a friend of mine asked me if I wanted his 2jzge long block for free. How difficult would it be to make it a turbo or since it's just the block I can just rebuild it and slap a turbo on?

EDIT: Just found out he will try to sell it for a week or two and if nobody buys it and he can't find a place to put it then he'll give it to me.

Any tips on installing the turbo with the elbow? Because if I put either one on first I can't get the other one on and wrestling the turbo while trying to line up the elbow with the down pipe is a major pain in the ass. Just wondering if there are any tricks or tips you guys can give me to make it easier to put both of them on.

EDIT: Never mind I got it all on; however, my thermostat cover blew off as I was test driving it somehow it broke the bottom bolt maybe because I tightened it a little too much and it started twisting the stud of the bolt or something. Luckily I can get the stud out and have a replacement.

Sounds like time for more tapping if that's the case :(

I am going to replace the thermostat housing anyway I just want to temporarily fix it now so I can make sure there isn't anything that I missed. So far I just have the thermostat housing and accordion hose to replace and she should be set after that.

I drove the car around for a bit to see how she runs now and so far she ran fine, hit boost a couple of times and the thermostat cover didn't blow off lol; however, the turbo does sound a little weird now I assume it's just the air flow from the messed up accordion hose that is making it whistle. Anyway, the turbo whistles now when it spools up and I let off of the gas it doesn't flutter anymore but like I said I am fairly sure it's from the accordion hose with a silicone coupler I attached to the turbo inlet.

I will make a video once I replace my thermostat housing and turbo inlet hose, that CT26 still kicks in hard and it shoves me into my comfortable seat. I will also post up a walk around video to show you guys how clean this car is for a 20 year old car.
