Sweet....... bring it over and we'll check the compression. Good job bro! no smoke?
are you free tomorrow?

by smoke you mean the exhaust? no smoke there, though I think the wd-40 i coated the exhaust manifold with got cooked off lmao... smells good LOL

didnt see if you guys figured it out, but the reason why the manifold stay didnt line up with the block is cause your manifold is designed for that of the 89 aluminum motor mounts. hence why its shorter.

Awesome, man!! I'm happy for you that everything went smoothly. Just resist the urge to boost ( I KNOW it's hard with all the new gear you've installed:)) until you've completed the final re-torque, then give 'er hell and report back! That's an order Marine! JK. Should be @ least a bit easier to keep it out of boost with the auto though. They pull pretty good out of boost for around town or at cruise on the freeway. I'm dreading breakin' my new motor in behind a five sp. MUUUCCCHHHH harder to keep a manual off-boost:):)

Oooo... I will heed that from now on :p. I'm going to retorque this weekend (should have about 5 heat cycles by then) and it shouldn't be too hard to get to 500 miles since she's my daily. I just finished my second oil change with filter change... man that filter location is such a b****!!!! then this weekend when I retorque I'll throw on the fumoto valve that fits this time, and hopefully I can finish up all the cosmetic stuff for a nice photo shoot before school starts :D Also hoping to get a great deal on a barely used tanabe exhaust system hehe

also noted.... I think when I redid the throttle body, I didn't get the idle valve thingy set correctly, cuz my idle was at like 1400 rpm earlier, but when i jiggle the valve, it goes back to normal. The contact between the linkage and the little rod that actuates the valve is iffy... *sigh I still don;t understand how that thing even works... there is no connection between it and anything!!! only it's mount and the little rod that touches the linkage

Andrew, you need to check your TPS. It may have moved a little bit while you had every thing apart. It's common after taking the engine apart that far to have to readjust it a little bit to get back to the optimum idle. Check it out or if your unsure how to set it maybe SA supra can help you check it on WED. while your over there. GL.

Hmm sounds like a good idea, I just checked and by the little painted marks on my tps it doens't seem like it moved, but then I did clean out plenty of gunk in the tb itself that affected the throttle plates range of movement and probably caused this misalignment... hmmmm

You might be on to something with that line of thought. Quick way to test it: stand on the driver's side and pull the throttle linkage rod toward you a little. If the idle drops noticeably, re-set the TPS.

OK... bad news :( today as I was waiting at a stop light, I saw a red mk4 on a truck pass by, then as i went to go right after the engine bucked like three times. I have no idea what it was cuz the series of events happened so quickly, but i fear the worst... hopefully tomorrow when we do a compression check everything is alright. Nothing else happened after the bucking, it was almost like the signal from my afm went bad for a second and then it went right back to normal. This combined with the fact my water/cleaner in coolant system keeps boiling out of the reservoir when I shut down the engine.... idk man... and the strange idle (I tried the throttle linkage pull today, nothing) which only happens on startup, after a while the idle goes back to normal. FML

Check the rad cap. Did it over heat? Did you put the tstat in the right way? Have you checked your oil?

Oh and did you burp the system?

hmm odd... the bucking was just that one time though, and it didn't happen again the rest of my drive... agh.... I gotta go back out to get cleaner for the power washer i rented cuz water itself is not doing squat

hmmm no over heating, rad cap seems fine, tstat is in the right way with the jiggle valve on top, oil is questionable... either it is super duper clean cuz i changed it twice already plus a new filter, or its water from the coolant system :(, no oil in coolant reservoir, and if tried to burp the system, had the car parked on the driveway incline and ran it with the rad cap open until it started to overflow or reached op temp whichever was first (usually overflowing... ). Has anyone blown a new headgasket less than 100 miles into it??? Only thing I can think of is that drop of water we saw on the HG before it sat.... fml

oh that last drive was all normal, just as before the overflow pipe is just a blowin steam like a train
