Cool, lots of good info so far!

How about a set of custom 5m cams with stock size valves and a mild port and polish?

hmmmm, I guess that makes it too complicated and expensive at that point to use the 5m head, since the 7m head can flow more then I need for the hp goal, and the Crower cams are almost ready now.

I know everything he did... I was there for most of it, and did some of the early wiring lol. RPS in the SFV did most of the turbo work, and V8 shop built the engine and the head work... I forgot the name though.

Joels car was originally my friend Pauls (who I bought my current MKIII from), he did the 7mgte swap, got it up to 500hp with the stock engine, then it went to Russ" friend steve, he built it fully to around 900hp, then sold it to Joel. Dont know if the motor sold on ebay...

Sorry about the Hi-jack, Aaron. I hope some of the info I posted was helpful.

BTW, what is the difference between the 5m and 6m? I thought they were pretty similar.

russ didnt start to make power until he put some huge valves in and ported the crap out of the head.

6m is 3.0l with 2 valves per cyl right?
same stroke as 7m 91mm, 83mm piston, but older head.

How do I contact mr. "russ"? :biglaugh:
Or tell him about this thread, and tell him we want pics of the monster 5m!

i was thinking about doing this for some time now. The 5m crank and the 7m crank are near identical and it's almost plug and play except for the Crank pulley. you have to machine the 7m one slightly or use the 5m one but it won't line up the belts perfectly. It is a cheap and easy way to destroke our cars. but i decide for my power goals it wasn't necessary to run the high boost and whatnot so i decided i will stick with my 7m... hmm maybe when i pick up a mark 1/2 ill drop my spare 7m into it...

If you're talking about this HKS mk2
http://www.celicasupra.com/media86.htm

then blah, I say, BLAH! The bolt on kit kinda sucked, same with the Spearco
but todays technology is so much better than it was in 1986 and big HP 5Ms are totally doable.

Take a look at our top turbo'd timeslips and see what's #1

No mention here of body weight or turbo used or Hp being made. Josh here in NewYork runs 10.0's @132mph all day in a 7m powered generation II body. Time slips really dont tell the story if the car is stock!

If you use the shorter stroke 5m crank you will have to have custom pistons or custom rods to make up 1/2 the difference in the stoke or you will have a real low compression ratio as the piston will not reach the top of the block.

Yes, but if I can find a rod that has the correct specs then it might not need to be custom priced.

Now bear in mind that the goal with this engine would be something like an "oldschool 1j". Not for drag racing and not for 700whp. A solid 425whp would be plenty. I want to stick to the M series, but also do something different that oldschool Toyota guys would trip out on.

What kind of power has the 5m crank and rods proven themselves to? Years ago I thought of trying the same thing out, but played with destroking the 7m crank 8mm instead. Never finished that project because at the time, I could not afford the custom billet rods to match. I cant even remember what i did with that crank. I might have thrown it away.

Yeah, the 10 second car on the top is backhalved and weighs hardly anything.

The 2 other 12v head times (6MGTE) I believe are from full weight Mk2s.

Thats going to be hard Aaron . you have 5 main areas of the rod to match. big end dia. , pin dia , lenght , big end width , small end width . If one of these did match it custom and a lot of money for the HP range you want. It would be easier to have the pin hole moved on a set of custom pistons
