Well didn't really get a chance to do anything with the motor or anything that has to do with the swap, but did get a few pics to add.... (damn I need to do some cleaning in the garage)

View from front (obviously), sitting on jig.

View from rear.

Hydraulic Release bearing assembly. Had to change the bearing on it to work with a toyota clutch and fab a new guide pin as the ones that come with it are SAE thread and it needs to be metric.

MSD DIS 4 Thanks to Ian.

Nice clean motor Chris! :)

Actually its really dirty, especially on the heads. The cam/valve covers were leaking in a few spots at one point and I guess that they never bothered to clean the heads off before they fixed it. (nice thick, oily and gritty paste)

lookin sweet, your using an r-154? cant really tell, where did you get the bellhousing?

For right now, I am using a W58. The bellhousing is the stock V8 auto housing with an adapter between the bellhousing and the trans. When the time comes for the turbos to be installed, I am either going TKO (i.e. Ian) or might take on the trans tunnel mods and go T56 6 speed.

Will not go R154, I hate the way that those tranny's shift and I have had the W58 in the car now hold over 400whp with out any problems. (My secret treatment. ;) )

Cad plating on the bolts!

It's usually the first thing that goes a bit crappy on motors! :)

Ah gotchya, I thought that you might have been refering to the guide stud for the release bearing. I was gonna say, that should never go bad being that it is stainless. Yeah there are still gray as can be for the most part, just dirty.

t-56 is a badass trans. but i just did a 2 min look into the TKO and doesnt it handle more torque? the t-56 was rated at 440tq??

what are your plans for internal work on the engine? anything?

About the trans, Tremic under rated the hell out of the T56 for some reason. I spoke with Tremic and they told me that they were under rated and the guy also told me that pretty much ever endurance racer (Le Mans cars) is using then (i.e. Viper's, Vette's, Aston Martin DB9's) are pretty much running them manufacture stock and I know that all of them are at least 650tq cars if not more. The same goes for the TKO trannies. I know a local guy that has a built 460cid big block in a mustang running a TKO500 and his last dyno run showed 740rwtq and he drags the car at least 2 weekends a month and no blown tranny yet (almost a year now). Tremic builds very stout trannies

As for internal work, for right now the motor is going to be stock to begin with. I might re-bearing and re-ring the first motor depending one how it looks when I crack it upen. Once everything is up and running, then I will pick up another motor (these things are cheap) and build it and swap it in for the original. The building it part is not so cheap though. Very little aftermarket support for these motors so prices tend to be high. The support has been increasing quite a bit over the past several months and the prices are starting to come down a bit.

I come from a land down under
Chris: I was able to compare my TKO and a T-56 sude by side stripped down on a bench and while the 56 is beefy the TKO is HUGE internally!

To give you an idea how big the Main shaft is 5th gear is machined into the shaft! :)

Yeah I know, thats what I am saying. Tremic under rates the hell out of there tranny's and I know that the TKO,s are probably stronger then the T56's, but the t56 is still by far stronger then what its rated at.

I prefer the double overdrive of the T56. I dont much care for the large 4th to 5th drop that you get with the TKO (and most 5sp's in general for that matter). I still might end up with a TKO just because of the ease of installation, simple adapter, simple mount, simple DS or T56, complex adapter, simple mount, complex body sergury, simple DS.

I still cant beleave the the T56 fits the tunnel of a FB RX-7, yet wont on a MA70.

The T56 is not that bad of a fit. The firewall/tunnel entrance requires some massaging, the shifter hole must be enlarged depending on how far back you mount the engine and the same goes for the left side transmission stamped mount.

the reason the t-56 fits in the rx-7's is because the ecentric(sp?) shaft sits higher than the crankshaft of normal motors. so i guess the 'rex trannys are mounted higher in the car nessitating a large trans tunnel.

off topic: now a 'rex would be a badass car to put a v8 into. i'm thinking carbed 350 and a 200-4r. oops someone help me get my head out of the clouds.

what are ou going to do for a clutch with this thing? 1uz FW? what PP? i'm assuming a GM disk? can you use the mkiii clutch master cylender?
