Resizing rods after installing ARP rod bolts

Making sure the big end tunnels are round and the correct size so you get the proper "crush" required on the bearing shells to prevent them spinning. Most used engines have egg shaped tunnels, knocking the bolts out/in again stresses the rods changing the roundness of the holes as the bolts...

Resizing rods after installing ARP rod bolts

Stock Rods are plenty stout just 20 years old, compare one to a SBC rod and you'll see :) Sean/X-Man has taken a set to over 700wrhp.

As long as the bearings are good or it's going to rub! ;) Ran mine this way with the MoTeC to 8300 rpm every time I drove it!

Resizing rods after installing ARP rod bolts

They're a fussy bitch at the best of times, any shortcut will bite your ass clean off! ;)

There are 3 coils inside the CPS most times when you run a standalone you only utilise 2 of them, the 3rd unsed coil is still generating a voltage and this can confuse the issue so you remove it, If the cam tensioner sping is new that's as tight as it needs to be. 2mm is 80 thou not 8

Resizing rods after installing ARP rod bolts

I feel your pain but the potential for massive fail is high with these engines... :(

so... in light of one of my previous threads... I just wanted to say

It catches up eventually no matter how good you think you are.... I've probably driven more miles @ over 100mph than most of the young guys here have done in their entire driving careers to date.. It caught up with me and I paid the price. Check out the Z Car thread if you don’t...

Resizing rods after installing ARP rod bolts

Knocking the old ones out and pressing the fresh ones in distorts the big end slightly and considering the youngest 7M rods are now at least 20 years old they're probably overdue for resizing anyway.

If the bearings are ok you can close the airgap down to 2 thou that will give it the best output possible, also remove any unused coils if you're using a standalone as they do interfere at high rpm.

Congrats now FFS get an aircleaner on it so it doesn't suck in crap and we have to go through all this again!! ;) (hope you're going to run a vacc catch can instead of that little filter on the cam cover)

Thinking about 2uz swap in a 89 mkiii

Yes it is but modern TVS Blowers as a good deal more efficient, while cruising there is minimal "loss" as it's in bypass mode and not compressing, I just think it's too big and will need to be turned too slowly to keep boost managable. Been saying much the same thing for years now but there...

    Oil pump driveshaft pulley removal?

Welcome! It's one of the many 7M gotyas ;) Another is NEVER EVER over tighten the Cam Belt Tensioner as it warps #1 cylinder!

    Oil pump driveshaft pulley removal?

Creates a stress riser and they fail.... Outer ring falls off the spokes, if it has any nicks in it replace it they're not expensive.

    Oil pump driveshaft pulley removal?

Be really careful not to scratch or mark the spokes...
