No one is all "russled up" here - just don't post old news and opinion as fact and we'll get along just fine ;)
(phatbimmer deleted the original post - take a look at post #29 for reference)
We heard you the 1st time ;)
A LOT of people have been using GC in their Supra (including me) for a very long time...way more info is posted in this section than you would ever find on bobistheoilguy forums. You're pretty new here...sorry, but it's old news ;)
You will also find that I...
And, what's really interesting is Exxon sued Castrol for calling it's oils "synthetic" when they started using hydrocracked base stocks and Exxon was still using PAO. The result of that suit is oils using "synthetic technology" (i.e. heavily hyrdocracked) base stocks were allowed to use the...
RP 5W-30 40 deg C = 65.3 cst 100 deg C = 11.0 cst
RP 10W-30 40 deg C = 70.3 cst 100 deg C = 10.7 cst
The hot viscosity is very close between the two...the difference is insignificant but, the 10W-30 is very slightly thinner at ops temp. There is enough difference cold to justify using...
That's one of the misconceptions about oil - a 5W-30 is only thinner than a 10W-30 at cold start temps. At ops temp (100 deg C), the viscosity is virtually identical...you have to look at the data sheets to be sure though. For the Castrol Edge products, they are....you can easily run the 5W-30...
Castrol has always had an excellent additive pack and Edge is no exception. It is a hydrocracked Grp III. Personally I would run the 5W-30 version for the lower cold start viscosity.
Glad you took my comment the way it was intended ;)
Forgot Pennzoil Ultra is in a 5W-40...another excellent choice.
Mobil 1 switched from PAO to a Group III base stock many years ago to improve profits...and, they didn't tell anyone. Instead they spin it with this crap...
The cause for leaks is due to the cleaning ability of PAO based oils (like RP)...many times the only thing keeping older, worn seals from leaking is the gunk accumulating around them. PAO and ester (like Redline) does a great job of removing that gunk - the result? You now have a leaky seal...
Haven't head any specifics on that one. I'm sure it has the potential to dilute the oil, affecting it's viscosity and ability to neutralize engine byproducts...of course, gasoline will do that as well. Either has to bypass the rings to get into the oil and ring/cylinder condition is going to...
Permacool adapters are not the best quality...Canton adapters are superb. Having said that, many have used Permacool with success and no issues. I was thinking that the oil is leaking from where the adapter mates to the block, but that was an assumption. Is that correct? Is this the correct...
The adapter should have an O-ring. Was it properly seated in it's groove and lubricated with a little oil? Both the block and adapter surfaces free of any grit/gunk?
Moved to the correct section ;)
No experience with these, but it looks like a catch can with the air intake as a vac source. It also says it returns the oil back to the block. Two problems with this:
- Vacuum at the air intake pre-turbo is minimal. That is why the stock 7M PCV uses manifold...
Hvyman is referring to LSD oil made by Ford...it is a good choice for a LSD with a lot of miles on it. It is straight differential oil - an LSD requires some slip to function correctly. Ford sells a friction modifier for that purpose. Some LSD oils already have the modifier included in the...
Ya got lucky...I'm between flights. Heading to Tampa in a few;)
What's important is the oil contains as little viscosity modifiers as possible...that means there will be the max actual oil available to flush out crud, assembly lube, etc. Straight 30W has min VI's by definition since it is...
Pretty much along those lines ;)
It's probably the best Bosh has to offer...much like a Fram Extra Guard. That's not saying a whole lot, quality wise...
