I personally believe, if air can get out, air can get in.
Sure, considering the circumstances, it's not likely pirate air is getting into the system, but it's better safe than sorry.
1) buy a 2JZGE head and use 7m electronics
2) find what camshaft pickup the 2JZGE VVTI uses, verify it has the same number of sync and trigger pickups. If the same as the 7M, use the 7M ECU and wire it accordingly.
3) run it off the 2JZGE VVTI ECU as you stated.

LOL sorry. I had piggybacks on my 7M, never had any issues. It just really made me think when I went to a standalone, and saw how much control I really had, and how much I left to chance/question when i was on the stock ECU.
Weird! I've never seen one without it.
I pulled the tube out, and tapped it. then I put a short bolt into it. I believe the tube was for the IACV, I can't remember, if it wasn't that, it was for PCV vac.
I had a hard time getting the injectors to seal, I ended up buying a pack of assorted...
