well if you prefer the chemical way jasco paint remover will take it to the metal. Time will vary depending on the type of paint how many coats was applied. And wear gloves too because it can burn your hands.

Make sure that blue wire (idk if its blue for all harnesses) to the starter motor is still connected and not corroded as well. I accidently disconnected mine while trying to get to the knock sensors and when I tried to start it, no crank and made that humming noise. At first I was like nooo...
