    Yay or Nay?

The best ring test Is a leak down test. Mute point now with head off. However you can have ok leak down readings and a engine still using oil. Stuck oil control rings are not sealing rings like the top two rings are. A car can run great and use a lot of oil. Most of the burning is caused by...

Cam Seal Change - Do I need to loosen the Camshaft?

Toyota dealer has FIPG as well as Driftmotion. Crank bolt torque is 195 ft lbs. Go to "sticky" in the 7MGTE section. 1990 TRMS. Great read. You can use a chain wrench to hold crank pulley or use a impact.

Cam Seal Change - Do I need to loosen the Camshaft?

You can replace the cam seals without removing the front cam caps. However I would not. If your seals are old and brittle enough to leak so is the FIPG on the front cam cap. Also your cam cover gaskets are probably old and leaking also. You should also reseal the core plugs on the black...

    transmission removal help!!

^^^ yes to unbolt clutch with trans in car. I put a small piece of wood between sway bar and crank pulley. This keeps the engine in a more natural position as the transmission weight comes off engine. IE: the front of engine does not tilt down. I think it makes for a easier R&R of trans...

    TURBO overheating HELP!

I think what he is talking about is normal. The MKIII platform seems to put out copious amount of heat. After a drive the fenders and hood are way to hot to wax. If I return to the garage about 10-20 minutes later you can feel the heat radiation into the garage. I could be wrong but I think...

Are these pistons good to use? Is this an example of piston slap?

If the marks on pistons are only visual they are probably ok. If you run your finger nail across the marks and it catches they may be questionable. If the rods and rod caps are not marked they will need to be resized. Each rod and rod cap are a matched set. If the flywheel was balanced to...

Breakup in 4th gear at WOT

I think that would be a good thing. Many people over look the need for good secondary ignition. Make sure to replace your plugs also.

    morganson's COP S-Type setup

Has anyone ran this setup making 450-500 rwhp? Also wondering if anyone has put on some miles using this system. I think if nothing else it looks great. Is there any way of using timing light with cop setup?

Question: plastigauge loose clearances on mains

If you really want to know you oil clearance you can't count on Plasti gauge. You should get a micrometer and at least snap gauges. An inside micrometer is even better than snap gauges. This way you can measure your crankshaft and the use snap gauges to measure the mains and rods with bearings...

    starter issues

Most Toyota dealers can get the parts next day. They have to be ordered by 3pm to have next day. Have you confirmed you are getting 12volts to signal wire during a no start condition. Just saying all the starters may not be bad. Good luck.

Help, almost new clutch slipping like hell !

I would check to make sure you have proper free play in clutch pedal. If you don't have any free play. It has the same effect of driving while holding down on the clutch pedal.

Help! Ecu / body plug issue

I would try to get new connectors. Then you can re pin the connectors. Dr Tweek might sell you the correct connectors you need. I would not hack and solder them. What happens if you have to pull engine again. Or cylinder head. IMO Good luck.

Question: plastigauge loose clearances on mains

I would get select fit to try and reduce you clearance. IMO good luck.

    Am I asking too much?

The jumper cables in trunk makes me think you have problems. I don't see a battery hold down. Those are two things I see and would be concerned about. I do like maroon leather but not cloth. I do agree that a better clean up would not hurt. Saying that your body looks nice and straight...
