How much does camshaft overlap affect cranking compression?

Yeah all of my valves are to stock spec bordering on the loose side.

How much does camshaft overlap affect cranking compression?

According to the BC cam card, the intake valve closes (@ .050" lift) 40 degrees ABDC. I just verified this on the car itself with a dial gauge. Are you sure this wouldn't affect compression? I guess they best way to make sure is to advance it more and redo the compression test. I just want to be...

    Trouble starting when warm

I do have a small one. I'll see if I can get it hooked up. JJ, I still need to look into your suggestions, just haven't had time. Thanks guys, this is an odd one.

    Trouble starting when warm

Thanks for the insight JJ. Timing is OK...timed at -10 at proper idle warmed up. I'm assuming (knock on wood) spark is OK since it runs fine otherwise (not ruling it out though). My vacuum is a little low (15-16 in/hg at warm idle), but I know it's at least partly due to my cams. I really...

    Trouble starting when warm

Funny thing is it worked great before the rebuild. Tune and everything is the same, just new turbo and fuel system. I've manually jumpered the fuel pump to build pressure and tried to start it...same issue.

How much does camshaft overlap affect cranking compression?

Makes sense in theory, but I've read things to the contrary. See the last four paragraphs of this article: http://www.badasscars.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=68/prd68.htm Since my intake cam is set at -2, it opens a little later, and hence closes a little later too. Would this...

    Trouble starting when warm

First off, my setup is nowhere near stock running on a stock ECU with a Maft Pro. I realize this won't be perfect and isn't optimal, but I know something isn't right. Relevant mods are: * Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump and respective Aeromotive regulator (-10 feed/-8 return) * 680cc injectors...

How much does camshaft overlap affect cranking compression?

I just finished rebuilding the 7M. It runs pretty good, and after 50 miles I did a compression test to make sure everything was actually good :). I did it on a fully warmed up engine, and all of the cylinders were within 5 psi of each other although the readings were a little lower than I had...

Thanks. I would have taken you up on that offer but I was able to clear the turbo by jacking the back of the hood up a little bit. I may grab it sometime in the future to cut and mold to fit though.

    Arknotts' 92 Teal Build

Thanks! I told the machine shop to machine the timing case with the block, but they gave me some bullshit reason that they couldn't do it (in other words they forgot). I sanded it down myself, and took a precision straight edge to the deck surface to make sure it was low enough not to interfere...

Well let me know if the hood is for sale or not...it'd be a much shorter drive for me :)

It's been a while since I stopped in here. Finally got the supra running after the rebuild. Hoping to meet up sometime before winter gets here. Anyone have a spare hood?

how to install JE wrist pin clips??

I cut a notch in an old screw driver and used it to push the clip into place slowly around the radius. Just have to be careful not to scratch any important surfaces. You'll need to get it started with your fingers...you'll be sore for a couple days.

    Arknotts' 92 Teal Build

I really need to just drive it this year, so for now I think I'm going to get a junk hood and cut it/paint it. Next year I'll worry about it more. In the end I'd like to get one molded to fit around the turbo, but that's a lot of $$. Oh, and yes I'm super excited :) Nope it's a sethron long...

No spark on cylinders 2 and 5, code 14

Fixed it! It was loose wiring that "fixed" itself conveniently when I was testing continuity :: angry ::. Only when I plugged it in did it pull out of the connector. All good! Thanks for the ideas though.

No spark on cylinders 2 and 5, code 14

Plugs are gapped at .028 since I plan to boost it quite a bit. I checked plugs 2 and 5 and they looked good. I'll try swapping anyway.

No spark on cylinders 2 and 5, code 14

I just finished building my engine and I'm not getting spark on cylinders 2 and 5. It fires for a second and then the ECU shuts it down because of the code 14 (not getting IGF signal from those cylinders). Here is what I have checked so far: IGF wire good between igniter and ECU (hence I...
