Back from the machine shop... Can't tell if they painted this or what? I'm guessing they did unless this is the oem paint.
Work done by: Scroggins Machine Shop - Downtown Houston, Texas
Work done:
Block decked w/front timing cover less than 30RA - For metal HG application
Straight Hone...
First off... Thanks for butchering my username and calling me out! :aigo: lol jk
Did you plug in the 3 prong connector that goes to oem harness?
Right before my teardown I tried to fire up my HID's but only the high beam worked... I think something came loose on mine but haven't had the...
I guess I'll do it... You have to shim two places in the oil system right?
On another note! I'm going to call the machine shop first thing in the morning and see if they are done with my short block so I can get it back and admire the beauty! So exciting!!!
Thanks guys for the input! I don't think I'm going to do the shim mod on this build. It doesn't seem worth it for my application. I have read around and have found no major... key word major benefits of doing this...
This is exactly how I was thinking. I never had bad oil pressure with my old pump. So I am doubting the need to modify this brand new pump... Plus I'm upgrading that crush bent oil line anyways.
So I need some opinions from peeps...
I have the Driftmotion aN stainless steel braided oil pump line on order.
I have a brand new OEM Oil Pump from Toyota.
Do I need to shim the pump? I've looked at the oil pump shim threads but I dunno if I should.
UPDATE*
Tom from the machine shop called around 3:30 today. Said everything is finished and they are ready to assemble my shortblock but they need my oil squirters. So I'm going to drop them off tomorrow and hopefully I will pick it up same day and drop off the head to be machined!
Gunk - Engine Degreaser, WD40 and Elbow Grease!
Thankfully these were some of the worse parts on the engine. The rest of stuff is dirty but not cakes in crud!
Some pics of what I've been doing while waiting on the block to return. This is the least fun part of the rebuild...
The Powersteering pump was by far the worst looking
Before:
After: (could use some more detailing)
Cleaned up the Waterpump. It was new about a year 2 years ago...
Oil pan...
Yup the front timing cover was bolted on when I dropped it off! They are assembling for me :) They should call me soon with the size bearings I am going to need...
It's all good I talked to Tom at Scroggins again. He said you cannot feel the pivets but you can see a couple small ones. He just wanted me to know about it. Didn't want me to wonder what they were when I pick up the block. But he also said it shouldn't be any issue. The pistons will still work...
So Tom from the machine shop in downtown Houston called me this morning. Apparently there was some pitting on the cylinder walls after the hone and he wants me to look at it for myself before they go forward with anymore work on the block.
I just dread driving to downtown houston again...
Well its gonna depend on pricing but the powder coating guy comes to me so depending on what kind of price he wants to throw at me we will see. I think powder coating would hold up better though.
