Wonder is I can have the block powder coated? I was looking at some BMW rebuild and the guy had pretty much everything in the engine bay powder coated and it looked sick!
Thanks guys, yea I meant to say which brand head gasket sry :evil2:.
Block is only going in at this time and I will probably have them assemble my short block as they have/are doing some local 7M motors! Will have the head shaved later on!
Any other things I need to know going in...
So I'm taking my block and short block parts to the machine shop as soon as tomorrow!
Need some advice from ppl with knowledge. I'm taking my short block to a well known machine shop in downtown Houston. I know they have built several 7Mgte engines.
I'm going to have the block hot tanked...
I'm confused... Shouldn't a machine shop know what they are doing with hot tanking? I mean, aren't lots of blocks hot tanked? The 7m couldn't be the only engine with this problem right? So shouldn't the machine shop basically be excepting this to happen and know how to replace them...
Yea ken I expect to see you at tx2k9:aigo:
I better be done with my rebuild by then or Imma be pissed!
I've gotta have everything out of my block by monday so the block can be sent to be hot tanked and shaved!
I'm inquiring a local company to paint some parts for me on my engine rebuild. He said their powdercoating with stands temps of 1200 degrees and their ceraminc coating with stands temps of 1300 degrees. I was thinking ceramic coating could withstand more than 100 degree more?
Well the real...
Not much done in the past couple days... Finished up finals for the semester today and it got super cold. It actually has been snowing and sleeting here but not sticking :nono: Thats kinda a rarity for it to snow in Houston! Anyways... Got the block pretty much stripped. Now comes the fun part...
Actually Ken, Hobby and IAH are about the same distance from Katy. IAH might be slightly further but not much to make a difference.
The Omni hotel is not exactly in Katy. It's a very upscale hotel so the prices may be a little high. Check around if you want better prices!
I can vouch for Mike at NST making good products. I have dealt with him over aim, in person several times and I own some products of theirs on my daily driver. Never ever had a problem at all. Their quality is top notch, great service, and they do extensive R&D on all their products to my...
So got a lot done today thanks to Derek...
Head coming off!

Then we dropped the oil pan and turned the stand upside down to have a real look!
