Hey all,
I'm looking for info on Zankoku Coilovers. I picked up a 91 Hardtop Turbo (Build thread coming soon...) and it's got these coilovers. They are SUPER low as is and need to be raised up so I don't rip off the whole damn bumper. I scrape on my driveway - which is pretty flat - even at...
If you're going to do the lex/550 mod you need some tuning if you want it to be reliable (stock bottom end or not). Don't worry so much about the internals - they've proven capable beyond your power goal. The key is tuning. A poor tune at stock boost levels (caused by a boost leak, removal of...
Very good review. The biggest thing that I'd like to see on any of these valves is data - flow and pressure. My Bosch BPV (like your before pic) hoots quite a bit and it gets old if I'm at partial boost on and off for a while. I also came across Forge and was eyeing their pieces. I had not seen...
You'll want to replace every o-ring in the system. It's not too bad. You'll want a new drier, new expansion valve and oil and refrigerant. If you start with that basic maintenance you may solve your leak.
I converted to R134a and it's worked fantastically. I was concerned about it not blowing...
Slow progress recently as I have been focusing on my other vehicle related obsession, haha.
I did, however, get in some parts to build up the voltmeter. I should have pictures of a complete, installed prototype soon... within 3 weeks perhaps. I've got a big trip with the Land Cruiser at the end...
My Bosch BPV makes the "hoot" sound on partial boost. It's annoying. On most Porsche/Audi's with a 3L+ turbo motor, they use two of the Bosch BPVs. I'm not sure if the hoot goes away if you use two BPVs and lessen the volume of air going through each one.
I'll be switching it out at some point...
Not all engines self-bleed very well. Some engines require a special burping or bleeding when filling the coolant. The 7M does not require any of these things. If you get air in the system of a 7M that doesn't easily work itself out you have a problem in the cooling system - potentially a BHG...
The only 7M that needs a special coolant "burp" is a broken one.
Not needed.
Exactly.
The special burp procedure and MHG myths are quickly becoming my pet peeves, haha.
Just fill the system up and run the engine with the HVAC heat on. Refill as needed.
OP - you're losing coolant...
Haha, to clarify, I designed and modeled the part at work and paid a printing service to do the actual printing. That being said we did meet with a DMLS printer vendor recently and are reviewing the ROI on getting our own in house.
Yeah, I think it'd be easy to reinforce enough. I need to take...
It's all about numbers. Supra's are rare when compared to domestic stuff like Mustangs and Classic Chevy's and Mopar, etc...
There's a huge aftermarket for those classics because there are a ton of people restoring those cars. Even if there was a huge surge in Supra followers it wouldn't come...
I've got my eye on DMLS systems. They're far from DIY territory now, but in a decade I think it'll be attainable. 3D printing went from a novelty 10 years ago to "Holy shit, I can make ANYTHING" now. The strength, even on some of the cheaper plastic materials, is amazing.
At work I printed a...
Yeah, I think that space is prime territory for a functional upgrade. The ash tray is just a rattling change drawer for me so I could do without it. My boost controller is about the right size to fill that void. The Zeitronics LCD display would also work well there.
Good suggestion, thanks...
I like that idea. The zeitronics is the smallest afr display I've seen and it's too large for the headlight washer button area. I do think, however, there's potential for that sort of display somewhere. I'll keep it in mind!
FYI, I meant headlight washer, not windshield washer.
Sent from my...
Figured I'd share some recent creations for the Supra. This will serve as a showcase for the parts and a tech discussion of their design/manufacture/assembly. If these make it into a finished, ongoing "product" I'll include links to buy them at that time. For now it's just some show 'n tell I...
Summer 2016 Update:
I've decided to take on a bunch of projects on the car. I'll be keeping it a while. :)
-New carpets and floor mats and steering wheel are up next. Pending timing I might also strip the interior and sound deaden the hell out of it.
-New wheel bearings are needed up front...
Haha. I avoid this by staying out of WalMart. ;)
I find it hard to talk cars with strangers beyond a simple "Nice car!" comment. I can't think of another hobby where so many people are so... misinformed - or where so many are sure of that which just isn't so.
Doesn't sound like a bearing to me so much as a dust shield or something. It may only be hitting when the suspension is loaded. Get it up in the air and double check everything in the area.
I installed the old starter. It cranked immediately, just like normal. There must be some fault with the rebuilt Denso. Back to Rock Auto it goes.
I opened up the back cavity where the contacts reside. The rebuilt Denso had beefy contacts. My old starter had 2.0mm thick contacts while the...
