    7mgte cps

I bought one from Autozone a year or two back. It works well and the craftmanship on it looks good. One coil measured slightly out of tolerance according to the TSRM. I took it back and tested a second one in store - same result. The rebuilt ones must use a different coil. I'd still love a...

I am lost with this charging system problem

Ok, but that's a rather minor misconception. Deep cycle batteries seem to be common in the car audio world because they're good for secondary batteries in high power systems where the battery will actually be drained or near drained during a contest or something. Thinking they're going to help...

    Machine Shop Quote

That's overall reasonable. I think it's more important to find a good shop you can trust to do good work. Reliable, good machining is worth more than what most shops will charge, even on the high end. On the flip side, poor machining can cost you ruined heads, blocks, lost time, money, etc...

I am lost with this charging system problem

OP: My guess is that your sub is just drawing too much power. If the alternator is new, wiring is new and battery is new you may just be at the limits of the factory set-up. Deep cycle batteries aren't necessarily good for your situation. Deep cycle batteries tend to allow more discharge of the...

The technician shortage is getting worse

I've never, ever seen any actual evidence of a manufacturer giving a crap about home mechanics, save obvious safety mechanisms (airbags, etc...). I've heard rumors for a decade now, but I don't believe any of it. "Honda installs their engines backwards just to make them harder to work on so you...

The technician shortage is getting worse

My impression in a couple bullet points: 1. There's more demand for technical-minded individuals in a growing number of fields outside of auto mechanics. Lots of these require similar skills to a mechanic, but may not require 8 hours a day covered in oil and grease. Automation, robotics...

Interesting, what other career paths are they choosing?

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

I took the intake off this week. Everything up to the head. Checked valve clearance and found a few off by 2 thou so those will be replaced. New shims on order. Ordered up a bunch of new parts from Rock Auto, Toyota and Amazon: Denso reman Starter (intake is off, no idea how old starter is...

~* Purchased a 1992 Turbo Black / Shadow Grey Hardtop *~ Pre Build Help WELCOMED!

The exhaust side will be hotter than the intake on a 7M. The ever-popular stripped exhaust threads are evidence of that. In the cylinder head, the intake side has a constant flow of cool, fresh air coming in. The exhaust side, on the other hand, has extremely hot air pulsing through it. The...

    7mgte to 7mge conversion.

Hang on. You came up with a $3600 price tag to get the GTE running?!?!?! What?!?! How?! You can buy a 100% complete GTE with all components for half that, less if it's non-running. Why are you buying anything new? If you're strapped for cash, buy all parts used. Junkyard. Forums. Craigslist...

    7mgte to 7mge conversion.

To get the GTE engine the right pistons is going to require 90% of the work and funds that it would take to: A. Buy components to complete the GTE OR B. Repair the BHG GE Swapping the GE into the GTE car would be a huge waste in both time and money. Do some more research on exactly what...

    My Door/Window Improvement Project

Very cool, thanks! It looks like the new ones angle out more into the window than my old ones. Not as much as I thought, but they should still put more pressure and contact onto the window. I'm glad they're still available! That should look great on the outside as well as help the window glide...

    My Door/Window Improvement Project

Oh, very cool! Can you please take a picture of that from the end? Like a side view showing the profile of that lip feature? It also looks like yours is soft or almost felt-like. Did you have any trouble ordering it? I'm guessing it was somewhere around $130-160?

    My Door/Window Improvement Project

Thanks! I pride myself on not being a dumb-ass - at least not all the time. There are plenty of annoying small things on the car, but all in all, for a 340k mile chassis it's pretty amazing. I'm hoping to hold out until I hit 350k until the car leaves me, but we'll see what the next few years...

    My Door/Window Improvement Project

I don't suppose you mean like this?: http://yotamd.com/toyota/mk3_supra/window_corner_seal.html My wind noise is drastically reduced just by squeezing that corner piece and carefully adding some black electrical tape. For $200 you could buy new corner brackets and should be able to eliminate...

    My Door/Window Improvement Project

One of my mk3's had awesome windows and doors. It had low mileage and had sat for years preserving the window and door seals. My current mk3, however, has 340k hard used miles and the windows and doors were showing it. I recently spent some time diving in and improving some minor things that...
