The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

While I didn't take any photos of the car meet at santa rosa, hosted by Ace G of Zankoku Performance, I did have a lot of fun and meet several people. SupraStroker88 had a camera of sorts with him, capturing the event. A line of Datsun/Nissan Zs generational statement rides were lined up in...

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

That's great pressure! I don't understand the cavitation concept within an oil pump. I do see it in a water pump design.

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

I've already shimmed my pump, and dropped the pickup down. I'd think a better solution would be to spin the AUX shaft faster by one method or another. The higher the pressure, the more the oil on the bearings can maintain the film effect under load. The ports on the crank and connecting...

Oil Restrictor for Ball Bearing Turbo

^^^ There, I found your problem! That drain is really a pressure port, DOH! lol Capt'n Obvious :D

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

I've been tossing the idea around the last month or two about figuring out how to make the oil pump (AUX shaft) pulley a few teeth less for a higher oil pressure. Anyone have an idea what other makes use similar pulleys I can modify? I just might visit a CNC to cut me a one-off...

Oil Restrictor for Ball Bearing Turbo

@ Suprastroker: I would think a restrictor would present enough resistance to oil flow that no matter the incoming pressure from the oil pump, the restrictor is only going to let so much past so fast. Oil out the exhaust, makes me think 3 things: -Too large a restrictor -Blockage at the dump...

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

I know! You can really blame it on the machine shop, they STILL aren't done. The head guy picked up more tools for porting the head yesterday, since flap wheels wear out and all. But I'm really tired of waiting for my car...

Test-Starting Aristo 2JZ without Trans, Strategies...

Not wanting to reinstall old bolts is hilarious. You think they were 'plastic-regioned' on initial install or something? Check the bearings out before hand, engines only bust when they're running :)

    New 7M Install

Lookin good there champ. I bet your all fired up for summer when its all together!! I'm not sure what the deal is on the dual exhaust gaskets. I've seen them sandwiched on one car before, though it'd been neglected long enough that I couldn't tell if it leaked. I've also purchased an OEM...

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

Meet? yes i know it, this is dragging out WAY WAY WAY too long. What can I do, get mad about it? I haven't driven my supra for 1.5 years, it sickens me. Suprastroker88 however has let me run up against redline a few times, keeping the fire going ya dig. I need to paint my supra, that bugs me...

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

A further update. The head has had material added to the previously corroded water jacket outlets on the deck side. The head guy has also began to work this head, the intake ports were slightly massaged when I checked in today. I didn't take any pictures, the lighting is crap in the evening...

gt35r swap has begun, have a few questions

Only under the head of the bolt, just within the flat edges of the hex head. You wouldn't know there was an oring there unless I said. The bottom side has a flat rubber seal like those found on oil filters, that one would be a hassle to reduce material from and still have a similar mating...

    New 7M Install

Hmm you asked a good question, would the cams wear differently in a different head? I'd say yes. You didn't have the cam journals and lobes polished, or the cam caps and saddles in the head flapper wheeled (polished), not to mention mic'd for clearances. Check the head in a couple months (2 is a...

gt35r swap has begun, have a few questions

PM IJ. about the adapter, he can give you the amount he shaved and where, because of that style manifold. I have the same adapter, its close to 2" thick, but I'm still on the stock exhaust manifold with no issues. Mine faces down, if thats any help. I'd think the top side of the adapter would...

STALX Supra - The Ultimate Time Attack MKIII

So the engine lasted 20 years? I'm confused. Will you fill us in with the story of the demise of this 20 year race performing 7m? I can totally see how 20 years without a ring job can help kill a turbo, and I can understand 20 years on any engine would reduce oil pressure, together with the low...

Hard to push like the brakes are sticking

The supra is the kind of car that if you parked on level ground with the parking brake off, and leaned on it, it won't budge. Maybe a sticky caliper as heavy man guessed. oem, within the calipers the pads have little holes and this wishbone metal spring wire to help spread the pads back from...

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

Top end health: The tension of the timing belt caused the cam journals at the cam seal caps to get worn by the lubeless cams. Some material was scored/swapped, and the shop doesn't think its worth the time to hone/bore 6 thousands (a lot) the whole head to keep up with making the cam seal...

The "Hurry Up and Wait" build

I forgot details of bearing health: No bearings spun. 2 were debris-marred, most lightly scuffed. Deduction is with the assembly lube worn away (Joe Gibbs assembly lube), things heated up, clearances tightened to zero, and a running engine stopped. The crank is to get a light polish, bearing...
