    POWER STEERING FILTER? (HELP)

A photo of my installation. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy; I'll take another tonight with my hands braced. The hose is Aeroquip 3/8" for socketless fittings. There are two 45° socketless to AN fittings on one end of each; the other end is just crammed an inch or so onto the hard pipe and secured...

    Power steering relocate questions

That loop is was a gift from Toyota so we could easily add a real filter and/or cooler to the system. http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38486 If you don't want a real filter, go ahead a pull it out. Asterix

    POWER STEERING FILTER? (HELP)

The hard line loop that goes up to the front bumper is the perfect place to add a filter. Get a remote filter base, hose, and some fittings, and plumb it in. I used stainless steel sheet metal screws to hold the filter bracket to the inside of the front bumper. I've had one for many years, so...

    problem installing new suspension

To move the spacer back out, just use a piece of 1/2" all-thread, two nuts, and two washers as a spreader. You can get tons of force with little wrench effort that way. Don't cut it, and don't forget to put it back in or you'll break your spindle. Asterix

SS braided line from clutch master to slave cylinder????

Putting ends on teflon hose is rather harder than your run-of-the-mill rubber oil hose. The hose is much more difficult to work with. Pegasus has 36" pre-made hoses for $20. If you need that extra 4", they may make custom ones. If you do want to assemble your own, Pegasus sells a flaring mandrel...

well the supra is sure a boat!

Point taken. :icon_razz In my experience, RTV is good because it sticks well, but not so well that you can't remove it. It may take a little work with a credit card, but it does come off relatively easily. It's not like I epoxied the lights on. It'll last easily as long as a gasket. When I...

well the supra is sure a boat!

The plug under the spare closest to the front of the car can be left out. Mine hasn't been in the car for many years. The gas tank shields it from underneath so water never comes in from splashing. That way water never collected in my spare tire well. Fixing the tail light seals will cost you...

How do you change inner tie rods?

The space available is fairly thin. I ended up taking 2 large adjustable wrenches and grinding them thin. I can check when I get home how thin I had to make them, but it's probably around 3/8". That's what those special wrench adapters get you. You'll see how large they are when your parts show...

what tires do you like and why

Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical They're quiet, not too expensive, do light snow just fine, don't get hard when it's cold, and last decently. Good traction for me. I've run through Toyo, Pirelli, and Yokohama through the years, and like the Dunlops the best. Wet traction is almost as good as...

Check the rating on your hose for the high pressure side. The pump can put out over 1500psi. Asterix

How to remove a MKIII front axle hub??

The hub is pressed in. That's why the instructions show using a puller to push it out first (page FA-10). You may be able to push it out, if you can fit your puller in there, but you'll never get it back in without a press. Just take the knuckle off the car; it's not hard. Then, take the next...

    Brake rotor question...

Ignorant mechanics will say you can't turn drilled or slotted rotors. It's not true. They turn like any other rotor. Asterix

    Clip in brake hardware kit

None of that stuff is necessary. Has anyone seen those wishbone springs on other cars? I've run without any shims for years with no problems. The piston can ride just fine directly on the pad. Squeal is far more dependent on pad material than anything else. The shims and goo are just insurance...

    driveshaft bolts for 1-piece

Pegasus does not sell SAE bolts for good reason. AN bolts are specified by the unthreaded length and go by odd 1/8ths. That's why you can't find 1-1/4. The overall length of the AN6-12A is 1-5/16". I used: AN6-12A bolts at $0.69 ea MS21042-6 nuts at $0.79 ea AN960-616L washers at $2.99 for...

    driveshaft bolts for 1-piece

Pegasus has a nice selection of AN hardware. Use the AN960 washers and the MS21042 jet nuts. I'll look up what length bolt to use when I get home. One washer under the head and two under the nut does it just fine. What you do not want is the threads of the bolt in the joint. The smooth shaft of...

    Power Voltage Stabilizer, is usefull?

It is very pretty and will look pretty in your engine bay. Otherwise, it's a sham. It's hard to tell what's in it, but it looks like 5 capacitors. Whoo-de-doo. Asterix

Need the Electrical Expert - Blowing Gauge Fuse

Easy check: make sure your engine block ground wire is well connected. Take it off and sand the terminals, block, and body with 220 paper and reinstall. Some anti-oxidant goop is good if you have it. The clue to me was when you turn the key to start the engine. The starter return current...

    Installed EGR...Interesting Effect on EGT

EGR and water injection do the same thing. From what I've read, both were developed for aircraft running very high compression ratios, like 14:1. Because the fuel couldn't keep up, something had to be done to reduce the combustion temperature and detonation. Both methods do that. A side effect...

    K&N oil filter: your thoughts?

My procedure after break-in is always to change the filter religiously every 2500, but only drain the pan every 10k. I've had very good results with this, running Syntec 5W50, though now I'm running Mobil 5W30 after a rebuild at 215k. The engine was in excellent shape for 215k; it was the...
