metric 8.8 = SAE grade 5
metric 10.9 = SAE grade 8
There are lots of ungraded and fake bolts out there, so don't count on the head markings in critical applications.

Worm-drive clamps are really not a good idea in any case, ever. (Ok, they work fine on my clothes dryer ducting...) They can't compensate for expansion from heating, so they'll eventually crush the hoses. The spring clamps Toyota put everywhere weren't just for cheapness. They work way better...
Mobil 1 ATF will not rot your hoses from the inside. I've run that fluid for 10 years and my high-pressure line is still good. A new pressure line certainly doesn't cost $500 in any case.
Have you inspected the crud that's clogging your screen? There are seals that could be disintegrating, or...
Except that you don't want cold ATF running through your transmission. What you want is ATF at the correct temperature. Using the radiator is a great way to do this, plus the thermostat for the radiator acts as the temperature control for the ATF. If you use a different cooler, you MUST put on a...
ryans_supra,
Sorry, but I've only done it by mixing the NS and premixed. Assuming that a whole bottle of additive is in one bottle of the 75W90, you may want to start by adding 1/4 bottle of the additive. The back of the Supra is high enough to slide under and add the goop to the differential...
That is strange. I've torqued those bolts to that spec at least a couple of times now, even with antiseize. My torque wrench is the simple Craftsman beam-type one. What I probably did on the front lower arm bolts is tighten them to the limit of my wrench, which is about 140ft-lb, then put my...
Wow. Impressive. I've torqued those bolts down with antisieze and they did great. New bolts surely are in order. You should doublecheck that torque value. The large bolts on the front lower arms may be as high as 136, but the smaller ones in the rear may only be 90. Checking the online TSRM...
I would recommend in your LSD to use 1 quart of Redline's 75W90NS and top it off with the 75W90. Or, if you want to go a little easier, put 3/4qt of the NS and top it off with the regular. I found that using only the oil with additive gave too much slip making the LSD rather less effective...
Looks good, but the crimp tool will kill your wallet...
Molex makes good stuff, too, and you can get a cheap "Designer kit" from Digi-key for a whole lot less than that crimp tool costs. Go to www.digikey.com and search for "molex designer kit". The larger one is good for 8 amps or so, so the...
I have one of these. It's sweet. There's rather less isolation between the knob and tranny, so you can feel the shift, but I don't think that's a problem. I think the new ones have more isolation than my older one.
Installation was quite easy. Yup, stock height, but the throw is half of...
Such is the problem with all plastics...
If you can find an epoxy just like the plastic you're trying to bond, you'll have good luck. The best works when trying to bond acrylic to acrylic, since you can use an acrylic epoxy.
However, most of the plastic under our hood is ABS or some other...
Fan clutch? What fan clutch? My '88 NA has a thermal linkage thingy on the fan that looks sorta like a clutch, but isn't. As it gets hot, the goop hiding inside gets stiff. When the car is cool, I can easily turn the fan by hand.
Supra radiators love to get full of crud. That's what mine did...
How many miles are on this alternator? Could be the brushes wore down and finally stopped touching the slip ring. Getting a good rebuilt one is always the best option, in my opinion.
Check all the connections first, like the one from the battery to the alternator.
