Hello again fellas, one moe time. Just wondering can i run my power steering fluid through a remote universal trans/engine oil filter? I replaced my power steering pump and had to rip out the screen in the remote res. becouse it was so filthy and full of crap from 1989 that it actualy had holes in it. toyota actualy runs a part metal part rubber pipe from the pump across in front of the radiator on top of the impact bar that doubles back and dumps in the side of the remote res.
So i'm just wondering if a filter would restrict the flow or would it be okay to run.:1zhelp: thanks.

Sure you can. Just use any cheap mount and find room for it. A 3/4-16 mount and a Purolator Pure One oil filter is a good setup but even a stock Toyota filter will do. Moroso makes a nifty combo cooler/filter but the elements are kind of pricey. These days I use a Magafine tranny filter on the PS return line and change it every 25K miles or 5 years:

You can also use a real hydraulic filter and mount if you have the room. Northern Tool is a good place to get 'em cheap. My PS system has been filtered and cooled since almost day one. Still on the original rack, pump, hoses, everything except the fluid. 20 years without a single leak or problem of any kind.

The hard line loop that goes up to the front bumper is the perfect place to add a filter. Get a remote filter base, hose, and some fittings, and plumb it in. I used stainless steel sheet metal screws to hold the filter bracket to the inside of the front bumper. I've had one for many years, so the fluid always looks new. Someday I'll take a picture of my installation... The $3 or so Purolator 30001 will last for years on a closed system like that.

Sorry it's a bit fuzzy; I'll take another tonight with my hands braced.

The hose is Aeroquip 3/8" for socketless fittings. There are two 45° socketless to AN fittings on one end of each; the other end is just crammed an inch or so onto the hard pipe and secured with two clamps. The remote base has two FIP to AN fittings installed with teflon tape. (The pipe fittings may be 1/2", but I don't remember.) There's a 1/4" aluminum spacer on the bumper so the base clears that lip. The base is held onto the bumper with #10 (I think) stainless sheet metal screws. You'll need a right angle drill to get in there.

One note: every remote base I've ever bought needed some work on the sealing surface before it would seal. Just take the time before you install it to sand the sealing surface smooth with some sandpaper. You'll need a lapping plate or flat stone for that.
