and she's taking in water fast!!!

i have been dealing with foggin windows latly and i remember last time i had a big issue with this, i had water in the trunk, so i pop her open and start looking, wet carpet check,. all of my clothing i was losing in my trunk soaked., check.

pulled open the tool compartment, and found she's holding about 2 gallons there, and about 1/2 a gallon on the radio antena side,

is their any drain for this?

the hatch seal appears to be in good condition.. so is their any other place this water might be coming in from? or is it possible the seal has collasped and isn't sealing well?

if you stick your hand in there you'll feel a small rubber plug on each side (nearer the front iirc). Also of course theres one in the "doughnut" for the spare. Look for leaks thru the rear brake light assemblies, also the back window "teardrop" molding leaks alot of the time as well.

Maybe your spoiler is leaking a little. I would check that and the taillights, as well as the seal that runs along the bottom side of the window (not the hatch seal).

yeah joe, your car i takin in water!

well i pulled the plugs, drained it, and left them out. i think it's coming in through the tail lights, i'll order 2 new tail light gaskets from toyota in a day or so and pray that fixes the problem. if not, im just gona assum it helped fix the problem.

any ways, on a side note, i have been searching for all of my 5spd parts since i will be converting soon enough, and i still need a couple things.

a right hand engine to tranny wing, i broke my brothers and gave him mine,

i also seemed to lost the clutch fork and the piviot for the clutch fork, i still have the through out hub and the washers and stuff.. either that or joe lost his, and found mine... hopefully tony has these parts ......

and i still need a drive shaft aswell, but thats all tooken car of, im going to have a ds shop make me a steel one peice.

ps, joe i picked up the new clutch componets from toyota today. along with some turbo gaskets so i can fix the tiny leaks.

The plug under the spare closest to the front of the car can be left out. Mine hasn't been in the car for many years. The gas tank shields it from underneath so water never comes in from splashing. That way water never collected in my spare tire well.

Fixing the tail light seals will cost you one tube of RTV. Surely cheaper than gaskets from Toyota. That's what I did and it's now dry.

rtv will make a mess. and if you ever have to remove the lights, it'll be a pain.

i just found that even after sealing my lights there is a leak. discovered just a few hours ago that my antenna is leaking and up underneath in the fender there is rust, thankfully not cancer yet but its scary looking.

is it safe to pull the drain plug in my right rear fender where water can collect? i dont see it easy to put back in, so either i shop vac the water until i seal the leaks or i pull the plug and seal the leak during thanksgiving.

so yeah, will water or mud come up through that plugged hole? why the hell is it plugged anyhow? grrrr.

Man that whole area is a big problem for me, and i'm still not sure how to fix it all.. One side of the wheel well has a giant hole right above the tire which caused a lot of rust build up. Also i had to glass a hole in my spare tire place.

here was the cause of water inside my car - also, when you get rid of all that water in the back and can still hear water swishing around, pull the plugs out of the door sills.

Point taken. :icon_razz

In my experience, RTV is good because it sticks well, but not so well that you can't remove it. It may take a little work with a credit card, but it does come off relatively easily. It's not like I epoxied the lights on. It'll last easily as long as a gasket. When I do my bodywork in the next few years, maybe I'll get one of those gaskets...
