^Great to have the guy responsible for a large percentage of 1JZ's weigh in on this! If you read my first post in here, you will see that I in no way said anything bad about the 1JZ. I just have seen so many people around here who seem to be using this beautiful car as a stepping stone, and it doesn't make sense to me to keep spending money on a car that those particular people don't really want in the first place when they could be saving towards that goal to begin with.

There are many others in the I LOVE my MKIII group I said I will always belong to. I may myself go !JZ one day in the future in my MKIII. And, I may one day own a MKIV along WITH my beloved MKIII. I just see what's going on as similar to driving south to get to Canada to get to America.

I'm happy with my MK3, and I am putting a 1JZ in it not because I can't afford a 2JZ, I am putting a 1JZ in it because the 1JZ is a kick ass engine in it's own way. I really don't understand the thinking of many MK3 owners on the forum that you are somehow inferior or cheap with a 1JZ MK3. It belongs in the car just as much as a 7M does, right?

I think they are a better option for the ma61 with less body weight to get moving, for a ma70 youd have to bolt on some goodies to give it a bit more grunt first. My stock 1jz (195 rwkw)ma70 is a bit poofterish but id like to try it with a few mods.
I see why people do the 1.5jz or the 2jz swap now.:1zhelp:

I have owned 2 MKIII's, ive also driven several MKIV's, to me the MKIV is ok looking but it attracts the "ricers" and thats not the type of attention i like to get. The interior to me seems to feel VERY CHEAP i do not like the layout inside and i hated the way they drove and the blind spot in the rear. The drive train on the other hand is AMAZING, so since the only thing i really like about it is the engine it made sense to just buy an MKIII and do a 2JZ swap and have the best of both worlds

If i wanted another toy besides my MKIII, instead of an MKIV id rather build a 97+ SC300 luxury sleeper. My room mate just got his 1jz SC300 done and its great, almost makes me wish id kept my SC but unfortunatly im an MKIII fanatic.

I didnt buy my MKIII because i wanted an MKIV but couldnt afford one, that would be STUPID since they are both very different cars and nothing alike, i bought my car because i like the way it looks, drives and feels.

All very well said.

You brought up some very valid points that I agree with entirely.

More cliff noting...I think that most people buy A70's because they like them...not because they cannot afford a MKIV, so get the next best thing.
The only frequent exception here comes mostly from the younger crowd that are picking up Mk3's "on the cheap" simply because...'It's a Supra'.

I've said this before, and I'll say it once again.

If I came acrossed an absolute MINT MA71 and an N/A MKIV that was beat to shit...Without hesitation would take the Mk3.
I've been around MKIV's enough now to see the beauty in them...and they are like no other cars on the roads...but my heart goes to the unique body-lined, factory widebodied, stylish 80's era Supra. :)

One day, It'd only be a dream to own all 4 generations in my garage. :)

I could have bought an MK4 6 years ago for nearly the same price as what people are asking today. I love the MK4's (not the looks), but the pricing in not realistic at all for such an old car now. IMO you really have to be in love with the SUPRA name to pay $25k plus for an 11+ year old car.

I kind of like having an underdog MK3 that can be made fast for cheap. Especially if it's 1J or 7M powered.

If you want to spend $20k plus, the smart money is on something like a Corvette or 03-04 Cobra.

i remember a thread about why buy a mk4 when you can get a mk3 on SupraForums.

Most of the MK4 guys replied "most mk3's are beat to shit an come with an engine full of problems, its the real Supra enthusiasts that buy MK4's, MK3's are just the 3rd best thing out there to get for those that can afford a real Supra, even a SC would be better than any mk3 supra you can find"

Wow that just goes to show that some MKIV owners have no idea what a true enthusiast even is or its meaning, what fucking tools...

You should see there face when my "engine full of problems" takes them with more than 3 car lengths on the freeway :wiggle::bigthumb:

I could have bought an MK4, but I love my car and I happen to really not like the MK4 body, its just not for me.

You know to some people going 1jz is the closes that there are going to get to a MKIV.

Also they love the MKIII, but want to have the power of a MKIV.
and putting a 2jz is a lot of work, with a lot of mods. But the 1jz fits right in.

also there is a lot of people that can't say I have a 1jz (I'm one of them).
