Scott I can see where you're going with this...and to probably a decent percentage of people, this would be true.

But we're kind of talking 2 different matters.

I love my A70. I will always love my A70.

Sure, one day I'd like to own all generations made...but that doesn't mean I'd sell my left nut on the Chinese market for a MKIV just to "have one".

That said, I went 1JZ for several other reasons...and I assure you, none of them had anything to do with debating on getting an A80. ;)

If I had my ways (money was no factor), I'd buy a MKIV, do a full 7M build, install.
And put the other MKIV's to shit. :biglaugh: But that's just my personality. Hate me for it. ;)

Really if I wanted a MKIV I would of had one a LONG time ago :evildeal:, but I am more of an old school guy so I stick with what I love and enjoy and having a MKIII and being active in the community is one of the best things that has ever happend to me :drink1:!

The reason why I went 1jz is because I fell in love with the powerband and the looks of the motor also the sound of the motor. Yeah sure thats not a lagitamit answer but saying I went 1j becuase its rare isnt a good answer either haha :icon_razz.

why would i go 1jz? a 1jz or 2jz 91-92 mkiii supra has been my dream car for a very long time....

and guess what i drive right now every day?

a 1991 1jz-gte toyota supra.

Easy now Jeff..........2jz are nothing to take too lightly. I know on here if you say something negative towards a 7m, you get tarr'd and feathered, but there isn't many guys on here that could honestly say they wouldn't take a 2jz over a 7m in their MKIII if given the choice. Now everybody on here might say they'd take the 7m, but only because they know it's a hypothetical question. I'm not trying to knock the 7m, but buying a MKIV and removing the 2jz that's in it for a 7m sounds kinda farfetched imo.........:icon_bigg

Could have bought a MkIV a long time ago if I had gotten my shit together and just done it. However, I figure the MkIII is about 70% of the performance for 50% of the price becuase of the pop culture icon that the mkIV achieved in F&F. That and I'm quite satisfied to not have to race everyone at every stoplight.

I'm going 2JZ, yes, but not with the explicit intent of putting it into an A80 chassis. I'd rather have a nice/fast/reliable A70 for 20 grand, then a slow/stock/nice A80 for 20 grand. TT's selling for less than 20 grand will typically require some body work, engine work, or something of the like that will make it cost over 20 grand just to make it nice and reliable.

I think for the most part people go 1JZ because it's a simpler operation to put into an A70, it's cheaper, and it can make pretty nice power. People stay 7M for the spirit and the torque.

It really just boils down to what you want in the car... the A70 being a stop-gap to an A80 is rediculous, considering what it costs to own; costs that never get repaid. Best to just sell the A70 and save for an A80. Modding an A70 for fun then selling it for an A80 when you tire of the mkIII makes perfect sense; less cost all around, and keeps the fun going. There's hardly anyone in here that's posted that I could outright disagree with.

No arguments there, Jay. ;)

Square motor, Newer engine design, Better Oiling system, Higher revving, the list goes on. There's no question the 2JZ is better than the 7M.
I sure as heck am not going to start an argument discussion about that when we know it's been spoken about many times throughout other threads.
Besides, who are you to accuse me of nutswining a 7M......... I don't even have one anymore. :biglaugh:

No, seriously though. The only reason I'd do an "MA80" is only because of how badly frowned upon 7M's are to many MKIV's owners.
Speaking pipe dreams here, I'd never do a 7M A80 unless I hit the lotto.

I just like going against the odds and proving people wrong.
As I say, that's just the way I am.
I could only dream of pulling up to SILV or TX2k9 with a 7M fed GT47 monster hiding underneath the hood of a MKIV and whooping on the others. ;)

thanx guys for ur comments. i dont know when but it may eventually happened how i describe. as for why i would sell the mk3 instead of keep it.... cause the sale of the 3 would pay for the mkiv! :)


oh and for ur guys' information, there are ALWAYS NA MKIV's going for BEANS here in socal. my buddy just picked up a SUPER cherry clean '97 signature NA new paint and 50k original miles for $6k!!!!! all u gotta do is have a good $10k and keep ur ear to the floor and check the papers and craigslist often and bargain! :)

i can name 3 other people off the top of my head who bought thier MKIV NA's for less than 10k!

i couldn't buy a mkIV because of my obbsession to make thing's better,would bankrupt me.i think the car itself is sick with it's wrap around jet fighter cockpit and big fat ass.if i owned a mkIV n/a auto,the mkIII would have to be home ready to whip some ass.
best case senario for me would be mkIV n/a auto daily driver and mkIII street weapon

Proceeding to pull up in a Mk3 laying down twice the power of anything in the parking lot would make for one hell of a Kodak moment to the components face. ;)

I want a 2JZGTE in my MKIII. After having the honor of riding in Georges very beautiful and very very smooth 2J powered MKIII, it made my mind up. But for now I'll truck it along on my very very smooth running 7M.

Here's a thought to those who dismiss the thought of owning a MKIV.

Imagine if the bottom completely out of the MKIV market and MKIIIs and MKIVs started to over lap in price -

Assuming they were the same price would you rather have –

A low miles (<50000) Turbo in excellent condition MKIII or a NA/Auto MKIV in rough (but perfectly usable) shape?

Also

A JZA70 (if you didn’t have to deal with the associated issues of owning a JDM spec car) in excellent condition or a MKIV TT manual in so-so condition?

A quick look at the classifies, that seems to be the state of play here.

I have owned 2 MKIII's, ive also driven several MKIV's, to me the MKIV is ok looking but it attracts the "ricers" and thats not the type of attention i like to get. The interior to me seems to feel VERY CHEAP i do not like the layout inside and i hated the way they drove and the blind spot in the rear. The drive train on the other hand is AMAZING, so since the only thing i really like about it is the engine it made sense to just buy an MKIII and do a 2JZ swap and have the best of both worlds

If i wanted another toy besides my MKIII, instead of an MKIV id rather build a 97+ SC300 luxury sleeper. My room mate just got his 1jz SC300 done and its great, almost makes me wish id kept my SC but unfortunatly im an MKIII fanatic.

I didnt buy my MKIII because i wanted an MKIV but couldnt afford one, that would be STUPID since they are both very different cars and nothing alike, i bought my car because i like the way it looks,drives and feels.

buying a "driven hard put away wet" MKIV would be hard to swallow.cleaning up a mkIII is just so much easier because the part's are easier to come across.i'm under the assumption a stock N/A MKIV would get more attention ,then my modded MKIII from the boy's in blue also.most of the older generation don't know what a MKIII is.the other day a guy kept saying "those fwd 4banger car's" to me.

I'm happy with my MK3, and I am putting a 1JZ in it not because I can't afford a 2JZ, I am putting a 1JZ in it because the 1JZ is a kick ass engine in it's own way. I really don't understand the thinking of many MK3 owners on the forum that you are somehow inferior or cheap with a 1JZ MK3. It belongs in the car just as much as a 7M does, right?
