Well, I'm down right think wingless MKIV's are plain nasty, so I don't think that will be an issue for me. I actually prefer the stock TT look to any of the kits, and wingless. I could probably rock a stock TT RSP I guess.

2J's are a wiring nightmare while you can get a 1J front clip and it's mostly plug and play.

Same reason some people do the 1.5JZ, or do the 2J was the 7M electronics.

Where's Johnny when you need him? Screw the SC300, screw the IS300...rock a GS300 as it's a boat but an absolute sleeper.

Oh, and I'd own a MKIV if I could, but it's too expensive. I'd like to one day own one of each generation (OK, maybe not a MKI as parts are non-existant...)

if u own a mkiv na ur looked down on more in the supra community than a mk3 owner with a 7MGTE!!

i say do like me. Stay mk3, go 2j, then (what i plan to do) buy an NA MKIV for sub $10k, throw my built 2J in that with my R154/clutch and drop a stock 1j in my mk3 chassis and SELL for around $10k! of course i plan to take my Work wheels and throw something like wide FN01Rc's on the mk3 along with a few other things to make a fast sale for my 3.

work the numbers. u come out on top and bypassed the overpriced MKIV and the downside of going NA and almost break even!!! :)

Dont get me wrong though, i could have easily bought a MKIV for what i have dumped in the 3 overtime.

People here seem to like to go for horsepower numbers above anything else. You're asking someone to take a fairly major power cut on a mildly fettled 7M to go down to a NA MKIV.

Anyway, anyone who bought their MKIII as a stop-gap for a MKIV is a complete idiot in my humble opinion....

If I were to buy a MKIV, it would be N/A and just for kicks, I'd either swap in a 7M-GTE or a 4A-GZE just to piss off the MKIV guys :sarcasm:

1J = teh shit - IMHO ;)

Best plan yet. BUT, why not keep that beautiful MKIII once it is a 1J?????????

Because the MKIV is ugly IMO, and because the 1jz is better than the 7m-ge I got stuck with. Not to knock the MKIV, I would just never own one. I got the MKIII because it is tied with the other best body style, the MKII and a whole heck of a lot easier to find in my area.

I'd have to agree with Hommer if you really want a mk4 then don't settle for a mk3.

I think its ironic that Nick has one of most desirable mk3's and is ready for something different.

Nick didn't say he was ready. He just said it was all a part of the master plan. Doesn't he have the one of the coolest signatures out there? It's my 2nd favorite sig on here. Your's George is my favorite. It has 2 VERY desireable MKIII's. 2 Beautiful > 1 Masterful in my opinion

^ I'm in that boat. I'm never getting rid of my first MKIII, you couldn't offer me enough $ :)
Same here. It was my first car at 15 years old, bought it myself. In fact, I'm switching back to it as a DD. Also always staying 7M in this chassis

The question isnt why go 1jz when you can get a n/a mkiv.. The question is, why go 1jz when you can go 2jz? :)

Thats what I was thinking this would be about. Most people end up upgrading eventually.

Yes, 7m's are cheap. But, the post is about a 1jz, not a 7m :) You also have to take into account those BHG jobs. I just think if you are going 1j, why not 2j? Sure things are more pricey but in the long run you have alot more potential and alot of aftermarket support aswell. 2j's are pretty cheap.

As long as you do it right, you should have only one HG job. Also, 2JZs arent cheap and neither is upgrading one.

And finally, here's a list of reasons why NOT to go MkIV N/A:
distributor, transmission, differential, brakes.

You'd have to upgrade all of that. The first is a personal pet peeve as I <3 wasted spark and COP.

The MKIV is in a bad place in the car market. Its almost an exotic supercar but with the problem of having the Toyota brand stuck on its nose. For the money of the top end MKIVs (70,000-120,000) you can pick up a new Audi R8, new Nissan GT-R, new BMW M3, used Aston Martin, used Ferrari 512 TR, or a multitude of other really classy vehicles that demostrate the "it factor" better than a MKIV. For the price of the low end TTs you could spend your money on a plethora of other import vehicles that are lighter and can be made just as fast. Yeah, you can pick up a MKIV NA (like I did at 17 for 14,000) and have the "it" look for little coin but the reality is in doing so you are trying to be someone you are not by driving a car that is trying to be something it is not.

Personally I prefer the look of the FD RX-7 if the motor were better made from the factory and didn't have to be rebuilt every 50,000 miles. As far as a track car is concerned, the chasis is far better than a heavy A80 could ever dream of being.

I would like a MKIV one day, but the fact that my insurance is ok with a MKIII it would be retarded with a MKIV. And if i had a MKIV it would have to be a weekend car w/full coverage. I went MKIII 1J cause i wanted that particular power plan in the car as its smooth and can make good power with little little mods. I also did it for the rare factor. There aren't too many 1J's where i live and the few i've seen they live far and i'll be the only 1J supra in my immediate area. I have driving my 7M 2 yrs and its been great to me, but i would like to feel something different with out doing the 7M from the ground up.

I would personally keep the MK3 because most people under-rate the car. This way you can inform others that there are more cars out there other than the ones on "The Fast and the Furious." Plus flip up headlights FTW.
