I use Amsoil 20W-50... hasn't killed my motor yet. If it does, I'll know its not good and I'll switch to thinner, but until then I see more info proving I should use it then hearsay kind of info saying I shouldn't.

Exactly.

20w-50 Amsoil in my '92 turbo as well with no problems. I've been running it for years in my Supra and Tacoma. My dd Celica gets Castrol GT 20w-50 being as it uses about a quart between every oil change with over 250k on the clock . . .

I broke in my engine on dino Kendal GT, then switched to mobile 1 synthetic. A mechanic buddy of mine said its fine going dino to synthetic, but told me never to go back to dino once i go synthetic, not sure why but I trust him.

I just put in some Valvoline 20w-50 Synthetic Mix. I was running Kendall GT-1 20w-50 before but I coudln't find it any more. I live in souther california btw. What makes 20w-50 so bad?

I've read that a thick oil can cause rod knock, spun bearings and other stuff generally related to oil starvation. I'd suspect that this probelm would be eliminated once the oil was up to temp, but I'm not sure - I'm looking into using 20w50 on my supra as well.

I personally don't see a huge difference in the viscosity of 10w30 and 20w50. I mean even when it's cold it's still easy to pour. On cold starts, is 10w30 going to magically be anywhere that 20w50 wont be?

I'm not so worried about a TYPE of oil, just curious how long before you actually change it. 3k miles? 5k miles? longer? I believe when you pop the hood doesn't it say somewhere every 7k or something?

*edit*
I ussually just go with the regular 3k

I use Mobil One synthetic 10w40. I also add 6 ounces of militec 1 metal conditioner. This set up works miracles for my engine. Had a lot of valve noises that went away when i started to use militec. It was a bitch and a half to find in Houston. There was only one place that had it in the hole town. It was worth it.:icon_bigg

I run 20w50 Castrol GTX.

And the 'Super Monitor' resets the oil change interval at 5k. I still change it at 3k though.

I switched back to mobil 1 15-50 for the 87T.

Tried vr-1 20-50 in my old car, the 88T, and though I was usuing a synthetic prior to it....seals died left and right with the vr-1 up til I developed bad piston slap and extended my middle finger towards that car.
