-Usually- straight into reverse works. If it's sticky, I drop it into 2nd real quick and then it slides right into reverse like a cheap porno flick.

I don't really care if technically it doesn't help. Its as simple as this:

neutral-reverse hardly ever works first try for me
neutral-reverse-neutral-(clutch out, in)- reverse will work like half the time
What I do works every time for me.

You can throw transmission tech at this thread all you want but that doesn't change the fact that my R154 doesn't give a shit.

Reverse has no synchros iirc, so to correctly put it in reverse you need to first put it in one of the forward gears.

I push in the clutch, go 1st, then reverse. If it doesn't go in, release the clutch and press it in again, go 1st and reverse again OR sometimes 1st-3rd-reverse works for me too.

I'll have to try that Gotturbos, thx for the tip

i'm with globalthreat. i just go to reverse and if it doesn't work the first time [and it doesn't usually since my clutch is shot to hell], i just go to first and it goes right in.

Clutch in, into reverse. works right 90 % of the time.

Otherwise:
Clutch in, doesn't go. Put in neutral, release clutch. Clutch in, try again.

Works like a charm every time. Just the occasional *CRUNCH* that can be embarrassing.

Which is exactly why I put it in one of the forward gears first, it doesn't make that noise and slips right in.

I tried just the clutch and neutral today and it made the *CRUNCH* both times.

to stop the CRUNCH, push the clutch in, wait two seconds, then try reverse. The crunch is from the gearsets still spinning.

I never have an issue, and now that this thread popped up I tried to figure out exactly what causes it... A good delay between pushing the clutch in and then going for reverse helps a lot I've found, not to mention I didn't have ANY issues today after figuring that out.

I know, I've got too much time on my hands, but I wanted to understand the issue more. If you're at the gate for reverse and then push the clutch in while pulling it will grind, clunk, and fight you. Relax... Stay in neutral, clutch in, count to two, go to reverse, BINGO!

If it's not that simple you're either running Royal Purple in your tranny or you're trying too hard LOL
