Yep. People think that it'll be cheap and easy, and I think "You're deluded."

Even if you get a JZA70 front-cut, there are issues with things like the throttle cable. If you've got an '86.5-'89, you've got motor mount/crossmember issues to deal with. There are issues with getting the PS lines set up for a LHD chassis.

Maybe you can do it cheap if you're going to just trust that the "bulletproof 1JZ" is in drop-in, ready to run shape, but I've seen that go horribly wrong as well. It's maybe a touch better than the "low mileage JDM 7M" drop-in, but not much.

Very nice you also have to think about the age of the motor 1JZs are like 10ish years old right? Might as well replace all of the seals and gaskets that way it can run reliably and well for another decade and run like new. I plan on replacing everything possible on my 1JZ and make the block and head like new.

Looks like you work at a Toyota dealer. Wish ours was as classy, it is in a former grocery store. :p

So many MK3s in one area lol
If my buddy Rich and myself get together, we have 5 Supras between the two of us. Four Mk3's, and one Mk2. All but one (my 87) run too. :)

Posts like this make me realize I must have been incredibly lucky (and fortunate to have the friends I do), If you don't count all the aftermarket stuff I bought, and the two sets of wheels/tires for it, the clutch that I wore out, etc... I'm still less than $5000 into my entire swap. Most of the money I've spent on the Mk3, has been unnecessary, at least in my case.

My throttle cable, came from some old 90's Camry in a junk yard, cost all of $3.00. Motor mounts were solid mounts welded up on the spot, made from a bit of Chromoly tubing and the mounts that came with the engine, since the rubber was torn. Power steering, I don't remember it even being an issue, but it has been a few years, and I didn't do that part.

Point being, it isn't impossible to have a reliable and quick car for a reasonable price. Just gotta have time, patience, and dedication to doing the right thing.

I would say you're an exception in this case. You counting all the "upgrades" that you're making into that budget? If that is the case, well we may find ourselves a bit closer than I think, spending wise.

I did the same thing buddy I changed my head gasket with the help of some members on here and I have never removed a head before and thanks to those guys who helped me out in my thread my MK3 is running strong today. If you need any help just do what I did and make a thread or you can also check out my thread and you may find your answers.

No problem, just take your time and I hope you replace every gasket you come across oh and it's good to replace the EGR cooler gasket with a metal one and triple check everything and label your nuts and bolts like crazy I went through at least 40 ziplock bags that were marked and even drew a little picture of where they went it really helped A LOT.

Hey Doat, did you end up going with a metal head gasket or what did you use? I just ordered my digital caliper (FINALLY...) so that I can measure for the thicknesses that I need.

I used a composite Felpro gasket that is just like OEM. I doubt I will go for much hp with this 7M. Did you find a thermostat housing or BVSV valve by the way?
