Got a boost leak.

Actually funny. When I hit ~15 PSI boost, there's a sound like someone letting the air out of a balloon by pinching the nozzle and stretching it. I guess that's a silicone coupler that isn't tight enough somewhere. (I pray to God that sound isn't coming from the turbo itself, because I can't imagine any way that it could make that noise without being completely toast.)

So I get to make a new boost leak tester. Should have done this in the first place, I imagine. I hope it's not coming from a coupler in the fender, because it's a pain to remove the inner fender cover.

Maybe I'll bit the bullet and buy a pre-made set of IC pipes. I kind of want to anyway. Too bad I can't weld aluminum... I wonder what it would take to braze it.

Well, the DM/eBay/CXRacing set would be okay. There used to be many different sets when the car was newer, but most of them aren't available anymore.

I still have the one piece that goes from the stock 3000 pipe to the stock fender pipe, and holds an HKS style BOV, I was using it in my '89, but now I have 2.5" piping.

Would putting my stock muffler back on give me better gas mileage than this can that I have on currently?

Doubt it.
Unless for some reason your can is ultra-restrictive.
Best bet is to check for vac leaks. That'll reduce mileage.

What are you getting on the highway?

I have noticed that ever since I installed my divorced downpipe my gas mileage has gotten a lot worse but that might have something to do with me hitting fuel cut at stock boost, apparently I need to do the lexus afm and 550cc mod.

What downpipe, what turbo? Boost controller?
Full 3" exhaust now? Details...

On a normal functioning 7mgte with a 3" exhaust I can't see hitting fuel cut at 6-7 psi. Of course I never ran that way without the lexus AFM and upgraded turbo and 550's.. I still hit fuel cut though. But that was at 14-16 psi

Justspeed ebay downpipe with open wastegate, stock turbo, stock catback exhaust, Blitz Dual SBC boost controller and I have an Autometer boost gauge. Tonight I was driving home and the road was clear so I started off then floored it and reached about 5k rpm full boost as well and no fuel cut but i didn't floor it in second I stopped halfway through that since I was over the speed limit a bit lol. It was weird I used to hit fuel cut very often but now it seems like the ECU adjusted; however, it doesn't feel like any hp was gained with the mod it just feels like the motor is a bit stuffy in a way. Also tonight after work I got in, started her up, put on my seatbelt and radio station then took off and got on the highway but when I shifted into second it felt like a HUGE power loss the car kind of bogged down and struggled to get up to speed then I shifted into third and it was the same but not as severe as second but once the motor got warmer it felt fine. Maybe my 7M doesn't like running while it's cold. I want to get a lexus afm and throw it on and see how it runs just with that.

The only "highway" driving I do is 60 MPH on country back roads. If I'm calculating correctly I'm getting roughly 15-16 MPG. I'm completely stock non Turbo except for that can which is pretty wide open and the baffle is removed. How would I check for vacuum leaked? Spray brake cleaner around the vac lines? I should also mention that my idle is a little high around 1100 rpm

Well, vac leaks would cause a lean condition, that the ecu would try to readjust by adding fuel, once detected by the O2 sensor.
But I may be giving too much credit to the O2 system. Regardless, it's hard to say what you should be getting for highway mileage, since you dont run on the highway.
But city driving in an NA should give you closer to 18-20mpg.

When I used to drive city all the time I'd get 13-14 MPG. Maybe this old motor is just ready to retire

My N/A gets 18-20 city like supraguy said. Have you changed your air filter or checked it to see if it has been changed lately? Have you ever changed the plugs?

I changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and air filter after I got the car roughly 4 months ago
