I'm obviously going to have a valve job done, but I need to kbow why my valves look like they do. Ones all white and feels gritty, and the others feel gritty. I guess I have a problem elsewhere I need to fox before this happens again. I hope they are regrindable because of the shims nobody wants to machine these heads it's going to cost in the neighborhood of 500 bucks for a valve job...

This may have been addressed in a previous post; but, what diameter rope is used when employing the "Rope Trick"?

It was actually USB cable in our case, and the diameter was about 5 mm.

Not sure but I think he means to fill the combustion chamber to hold the valves up?

In that case, we didn't actually do the rope part, since we knew that it would work we didn't need to prove it.

Yes, that's what I'm referring to.

I'll be changing valve stem seals here in about a week so all of this information is very timely.

Thanks IJ.

I noticed that a few of my valves are white indicating a lean condition. Aside from "gently" removing the build up, is there anything I can/should look for that would indicate failure?

I can post a pic or even start a new thread if necessary.

I didn't think about that.

What made me think of a lean condition was that I did have an 800 rpm lean hole in my tune (13.4 afr) that I didn't find for about a week. I suppose that could've contributed too...?
