Could it be that your coolant and overheating problem is due to your electric fans not coming on and not something worse? I hope so!!!!

I didn't catch that mine weren't coming on one day and the temp rose from the typical just below half mark to the just below red mark before I caught it! I pulled over and wiggled my wires and voila! The fans came back on. I have since fixed that by the way... ;)

On another note... Isn't 18psi pushing it for pump gas?

Well as I said, the 30 Amp fuse for the fans was melted. The fuse holder went to shit. Tried swapping out fuses but the controller wouldn't respond. I've heard some not so great things about the FAL controllers and their tendancy to melt fuses so I ordered a 3rd Gen SPAL Programmable Controller for the supra today w/ next day shipping. Hopefuly get it tommorrow and get the car running again. Also need to get 3 more gallons of Toyota Pink and flush my cooling system now.

As far as the octane and the 18psi. Wasn't thinking about that. Running 93 octane at the moment. I know this gas station that has higher than 93 but its a ways out and im sure more expensive than the 93 octane that im currently putting in. What would you guys recommend for safe boost on pump gas?

I guess we are spoilt in australia... our regular unleaded is 93 I belive. Our premium is 95 and our sports stuff is 98.

You can get 98 octane at just about any service station. I personally would not run about stock boost on less than 95 octane, but thats me.

That's where a dyno comes in to play.

That being said, I did a little bit of research on this subject. I used this forum as my reference and from what I've read, guys don't seem to go over 18 psi on pump gas. But, there are two major variables with this. The tune...and...the car.

Again, that seems to be the limit from what I've read. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'd like to run more boost! :)

Well my wideband shows me running rich at 18psi. Car pulls hard. Only running the Fcon at the moment. No other adjustments. Hopefuly your right. Meaning Im going to have to take the T off and re-shim, just put bigger shims in. Ever-so-often i hit fuel cut and i see the needle on my boost gauge go to about 20 then settle at 18. The times ive seen it do this it hadn't hit fuel cut. I haven't kept an eye on the boost gauge the times its hit.

18 psi should be fine on pump gas im running 20psi since i got the 180sx so dont worry be happy! and enjoy. nice pull today by the way.. but fix those damn old ass brake calipers.. altleast loob them.. :) i remembered i was also having that problem wit them im of thurs and friday swing through..

ps.. if you wanna take the safe route put 100 octane you know where its at
and it was 5 bucks a gallon last time i checked .. But then again u can go up tp 20psi with that gas hehehe:evil2::aigo::nono:

Here are the pics of the fan controller. I had an issue yesterday where my Brake Master Cylinder started leaking again. I just replaced it like two weeks ago so i got a replacement. Also had removed the vacuum line w/ the T that i had put on the wastegate for the turbo. Realized why I kept spiking and hitting fuel cut. The dried up vacuum line had broken befor the T so it was bypassing the wastegate and kinda open boosting me. Never thought I'd say this but thank god for Fuel Cut. I replaced the vacuum line and put some big shims under the wastegate but then was suffering a crank/no start situation. Im assuming i overshimmed the wastegate and its not allowing the car to start but im not sure. Gotta pull codes and diag today. Also wired up a red LED in the center console to keep me informed as to the status of my electric fans.

Well I checked the codes and have the following:

24 - Intake Temp Sensor
34 - Turbo Pressure Sensor
42 - Vehicle Speed Sensor
43 - Starter Signal
52 - Knock Sensor

Im pretty sure that the 24 was for me trying to start the motor w/o connecting the AFM. The 34 was from the broken wastegate vacuum line and me hitting fuel cut, and the 52 im thinking was from back when the motor overheated due to the FAL Fan Controller having a current spike that melted my 30 amp fuse. Meaning now i gotta figure out whats up w/ the4 42 and 43. Currently have the ground cable on the battery disconnected to clear the codes. Gonna re-test to make sure i still have those codes in a bit.

ok, cleared the codes. there are no codes present now. looked around at stuff i messed with and noticed the AFM wasn't properly plugged in. car strarts now. just trying to put on the new master cylinder.

UPDATE: Ok, Master Cylinder is installed. Bench bled it but have yet to bleed the brakes. Called Headquarter Toyota and gave them the part numbers for one of the bleeder screws that i need for the rear driver side caliper and both bleeder caps. When they get in imma focus on removing the broken bleeder, replacing it, and bleeding the brakes. After that imma try to get the shoes for the back so I can effectively start using my hand brake.

Also decided to pull codes after getting the car running again and putting the master cylinder on and road testing. Only have a code 42 now wich is Vehicle Speed... Im unsure as to this but im thinking its getting this code when the motor stalls between gear shifts due to the atmospheric BOV. Motor is still at speed but since the motor momentarily gets no power the ecu doesn't send a signal for vehicle speed. I dont know.

An easier way to clear codes is to pull the EFI fuse and leave it out for a few minutes.

My bov is releasing to atmosphere and I experience the every now and again stall; but, I don't ever get the 42.

Good luck man! :)

BTW: Where did you order your new fan controller from?

Just did a search for them on yahoo and got A1 Electrics. Cost like $125. plus shipping. did next day delivery because this was kinda top priority.

as far as the code 42 then i gotta check that... Still having problems w/ the brakes. Changed the master cylinder and the pedal keeps getting hard after a long drive. Dont wanna blow out a third master cylinder. Some people recommended that i adjust the pushrod for the master cylinder so imma try that and we'll see. Still waiting for tuesday for the bleeders.

Ok, so far it seems that adjusting the pushrod fixed my brake issue. I got the bleeder screw for the back right just gotta get a chance to try to get the old screw out and put the new one in and bleed the brakes. T'ed the wastegate again. should be back at 1.5bar (18psi). Gotta save up some money for more Toyota Pink coolant to flush the cooling system. Cleaned the signs of the overheating from the engine bay yesterday. Got to see when i get a chance to pull codes again because i've seen the CEL come on a few times but i keep closing the ignition and starting the car again to get the light to go away. Proper diag and repairs later. Stay Tuned!

ok, screw proper diag... messed w/ the cps wiring and afm connector and it eventualy started up. the T has me boosting 15psi. wasn't satisfied so i shimmed the wastegate a bit. Still pending road test. Also having an oil consumption issue. Put a quart of 10W30 Lucas Full Synthetic in today and its reading half on the dipstick. The dispatcher at my job recommended I start using 5W50 instead. I notice smoke out the exhaust after a decent pull, a shift into neutral and a cruise to the next light.

Ok, seems im boosting 18psi again. Cars running hard. Went to the only gas station that i know of here near my house that sells race gas and put 7 gallons of 100 octane. damn thing is $4.99/gallon. Im sure that the $35 dollars didn't fill my tank. Car feels a bit more responsive. I love it. Someone else filling up w/ the 110 said that they wont allow you to put it directly into the car. You have to bring a gas can and fill that up. If your going to put it in your car you have to put it in off the premises. Gonna see if I can't try mixing the two further down the road when i have more money. Gonna start saving for an AEM ECU. Also planning a trip to the dyno to see how much im making befor the AEM and tuning. I'll try to keep everyone posted.

cut the front rotors today. got rid of the front end vibration under breaking. also had to tighten all the t-bolt clamps for the IC piping. had a bad boost leak today. premature fuel cut, car lacked power... etc. but yeah. looks ok. sadly back to running 10psi.... thought that the premature fuel cut at night was due to the shims i added to the wastegate/T combo so i took the shims out... gonna put em back tommorrow.
