This was silly. A riddle needs to have a single answer that makes sense to all participants. There were several answers for this proposed that fit the requirements - worse yet, some of them make MORE sense than the actual 'answer'.

Fail.

They would have had to be on a very long trip for one car to have made up 30 more miles than the other.

I don't think the riddle was bad, exactly, just not enough constraints to lead to the answer you wanted.

Next time you tell it, you could make sure the constraints only allow your answer to be possible.

Kind of like the riddle of the plane taking off on a conveyor belt. If the constraints and riddle aren't told correctly, it messes up the answers.
