Thanks a lot guys for all the comments, and yeah I got pics of the elbow I'll attach them at the bottom of this post.

At this point in time I figured out my ecu power issue which was due to my efi relay not energizing for some reason. I got that problem worked out and I now have power to the ecu. Now onto getting my laptop connected to the stinger:cry:

:1zhelp:
I have no idea what is going on with this thing its a royal pain in my ass:icon_evil. Okay this is what I'm working with I have the PnP harness from driftmotion as well as the usb/serial cable with driver. I'm also using a serial female/female adapter on the stinger since the DM cable is a male serial end.

All com settings are correct and the same, I've also tried different coms. I've messed with the FIFO and buffer settings on the laptop side of things but nothing works the stinger never gets a flashing green. I've tried two other laptops and two other cables that were known to work with other softwares, tried with all the computers every different combo you could think of and I cannot get anywhere.

The stinger is obviously very finicky and doesn't like ease of connection apparently, the closest I have got is with a different laptop and a serial to serial cable. I get the flashing green light showing its connected but the words next to it are either OFFLINE or WRONG ECU. But even that isn't consistent and doesn't always happen.

So my question is what do I do:aigo:?! Is there a certain female/female serial adapter that should be used? This is the one I'm using it was cheap from micro center....
p1306353_1.jpg

I feel like that may be a partial issue, screwing with any potential connectivity. I don't see why driftmotion would sell a cable that doesn't work with the stinger? And my laptop sees it and installs and unistalls the driver just fine::hang::. It's driving me insane, I've been messing with it for almost 16+ hours and cannot get connected:crazy1:!

:1zhelp:

O and here is the elbow you guys asked to see off the turbo, definitely turned out very nice...

This may sound crazy but if anyone has a female/female adapter in use with there stinger and it's working could you possibly shake it to see if it rattles:sarcasm:.

I really don't think it should:nono:. I just discovered mine does, so I went to radio shack to grab another I'm gonna try and see if possibly that may help?

For those of you using gender changers what brand are you using?

So I believe the connectivity problem has been solved, I just need to wait for the correct serial cable from Aaron at DM. Unknown to me a gender changer cannot be used when trying to connect the stinger to a laptop. Also apparently which I was unaware of is that the serial cable that should be used with the stinger is pinned differently then any other, thus creating my connectivity problems.

The cable should be here early next week Monday or Tuesday I assume then I will give it a shot. To pass time by though me and a buddy made my exhaust that needed to make up space that was left when I changed to this different DP.

Here is the gap that needs filled....

p1309119_2.jpg

I already had flanges from my test pipe, so I just grabbed a straight piece of stainless pipe, milled the ends to incorporate the correct flange angles...

p1309119_4.jpg

And boom the final piece, which turned out relatively well, it was a definite pain in the ass, as we couldn't reach the welder to under the car. We had to keep marking the flanges and tack them out to check fitment:3d_frown:...

Now just gotta wait for that cable, and just clean everything up while waiting:aigo:.

Nice job....
Going single is not so easy,as many people think.
It's all about a new fuel system, turbo kit, partly exhaust set-up,partly IC piping and last a standalone ecu. Also requires many small parts to get fabricated correctly.

Good luck to your single project...almost there :biglaugh:

Alright so the connectivity sorta got figured out but not completely:cry:.

I received the cable from Aaron and it did work correctly it's enabled my PC to see the stinger. Now the screen pops up when it finds the ecu "read from ecu" with yes or no. If I select yes nothing happens and it knocks the ecu offline. If I click no then it will say COMMUNICATING it will stay connected then say ECU LOCKED in the bottom right hand corner, but I will still be connected:aigo:.

If i "write to ecu" i will see it trying to load (very quickly) at the bottom but when I try to read from it nothing comes up. I tried to erase the ecu to see if there was a password saved in it but that didn't do anything, and I cannot apply a new password to verify it will unlock.

So I gave EMS USA a call and it sounds like to us both as though the ecu got locked up and I cannot work with it. I sent it out today and will be there by 3pm tomorrow, so hopefully by the end of the week they'll be able to figure out if they can fix it or if it has to go out to EMS Australia:kickinthenuts:.

So in the mean time I'm just waiting, hopefully I can get it all settled up shortly with no major issues. I'll have to wait for a call:word8kn:.

Well I talked to EMS USA today because I sent it to them to see what was up they couldn't figure it out so It's getting sent to Australia:ugh2:. In the mean time they are gonna send me another one for a price, and send mine out to Australia to figure out whats going on with the one I received, and credit me for that repair as they will just keep that one for themselves.

Guess it's why you shouldn't trust ebay members even with 100% feedback:bigun2:.

Thanks man, yeah I was the same way glad I finally got to do it.

I made progress though today, my stinger got here nice and early today and it connected right up no real issues at all, Lance and them were great to deal with. They had to put a new memory board in, since they had to send mine to australia to figure out what was wrong with it.

Anyways I got the car started within a couple tries with a slightly modified base map. It was pig rich when started up so I started messing with the Fuel Trim Percentage and got it to idling at about 950rpm at 14.3-14.8 A/F at 40psi fuel pressure.

Is anyone using saturated injectors, do they seem a little bit harder to get fine tuned due to the slower response time?

Anyway, I need to mess around with it a lot more I think the timing map is way to advance it seems kind of choppy and if I free rev going through cells I'll peg 16.0 and hit like a rev limit as if the fuel was cut at 4.5k rpm.

Any help would be cool, advice or whatever its the first time using a stinger and I'm just trying to figure it all out. Hopefully I'll update you guys tomorrow with good news.

hopefully, its tuned out and on the road, update?
nice setup, by what rpm does that thing spool?

Man it completely slipped my mind to update this I've been really busy with it and school.

As of now yes shes up and running just not fully tuned yet although I've had a lot of dyno time. Right now with a very poor ignition shes making about 415whp at 15psi braking up around 4.5k rpms. My cyl. one coil and pigtail is barely working anymore along with all the other extremely worn out coil pigtails. I'm waiting on one new coil and all new pigtails as well as an HKS DLI to help with the poor ignition these 1Js have:3d_frown:.

It easily begins spooling at about 3k slowly to 10psi then pegs to full boost in a couple hundred rpm, thanks to a pretty aggressive timing curve. The street tune as of now is decent I need to lean it out more though so I don't go through so much gas.

I'll keep you guys posted and throw my map up here later if anyone cares to take a glance. Hopefully this week I'll get all the Ignition worked out turn it up to 20psi and see what I get. With some dyno vids:naughty:.

What kind of power are you making at around 9-11 PSI?

Can you post some sheets?

If I'm not mistaken not much less really. I haven't really looked at any of the dyno sheets yet as I have been focused more on the tune and ignition situation then the power I have been making.

Does anyone possibly have what their settings are for dwell as I've also had a tough time zeroing in on the right spot. The cleanest I could really get it at was .8125 I believe it is. I feel like it's really low causing some of the miss up top but anything more it also causes it to brake up:icon_conf.

Me too :)

Your ignition should be okay at 15PSI, I think it's just your dwell.

Great build you have going here, lots of awesome fab work. Loving the huge turbo also :biglaugh:
Keep us updated on this im curious on how your tune turns out once your ignition problems are solved!

Mine's 3.5

That's what I started with and it would brake up like crazy just under acceleration, 2.5 was decent but I couldn't get a good acceleration without it being as low as 1ms. I believe the 2J coils are said to need 2.5ms of dwell which seemed about right maybe a little low but it may just be the fact that I have a horrible connection on the #1 cylinder coil. I'm hoping which I don't doubt that once i replace that coil and all the connectors with the HKS box I'll be able to raise the dwell back up to 3.5ms and be good.

As of now i haven't gotten remotely close to a smooth curve due to those issues and not making close to what I could be making, hence the reason I haven't paid close attention to the power yet:nono:. Once those things are fixed I should be where I want/should be, I'm soon to find out.
