lemme start by saying i love my car.

Cup holders, piceces of shit
no fuel pump service door
3600lbs get a fucking grip
basically should have made it a 2 seater with a large trunk, useless trying to carry haul people
2pc driveshaft
SHITTY gas mileage
head bolt torque
leaks- now i realize this comes with age but these cars leak in so many diffrent places its not even funny
and lastly, some of the owners, lets get a FCD, MBC and run 18psi daily. with no supporting mods.

I like the 4 seats, saves on insurance, without them we'd be labled a "Sports car" and have to pay more.

And the 2 piece driveshaft is FTW. Go ask IJ.

My reply re: 2 piece DS! ;)

High speed sustained the 2 piece is far superior!

Uni Joints don't spin in circles it's more a figure 8 and the longer the shaft the greater this effect and eventually if it's too long or spinning too fast you get shaft whip/vibration and destruction of parts!

One thing that no one has ever mentioned:
I always thought that the steering wheel blocked the instrument panel.
The top of the wheel was right smack in the middle of my view of the tach and speedo.
Does anyone else have that issue?
I am 5'11" if that is at all relevant, but I would think that my height would be what they should have made the car for, since I am the average height.

Odd. I'm 6'0" and absolutely love the steering wheel positioning on the Supra because I can see every gauge perfectly. Maybe it's preference on height of the wheel, but I always loved it.

There are a few things that bug me about the car, but far fewer than some other cars I've worked on, and the likes far outweigh the dislikes.

I hate the cup holder, but have a pre-89 so I don't have it and don't want it.
I hate the no fuel-pump access thing as well, but it's typical of Toyota design at the time.
I hate the headgasket issue.
I hate the bolt on the upper control arm on the front passenger side suspension.

Most of the stuff that I didn't like I've changed out with parts from other years or models. I've noticed a lot of people's hates are specific to their car, not the Supra in general, like the gas release, I've never had a problem with that, or the rust in the rear wheel well. A lot of the hates I've never experienced because I always fix something I notice starting to wear out before it breaks. (They are old cars, it comes with the territory). I've always found the Supra aged quite well though.

Some things I disagree with that I saw:

I use and like having the back seats, they're not too small, they're a good compromise on size for the car IMO, fuel milage I've always found to be quite good on my Supra, never had any complaints about that. 2-piece driveshaft? Sure, it wears out eventually, but it puts less strain on the bearing in the transmission so it doesn't have to support the weight of the driveshaft, I'd call it a good thing. I'd rather replace the center bearing than rebuild the transmission.

Okay, I edited this post like 5 times, I'm done ;).

Fuel pump access. (or lack there of)
My speedo cable is on its way out.
Never had a stock cup holder (87) so I built one around the DS tunnel right behind the seats. A little hard to grab but they work in a jam or if you pick up food/drinks and try to take it home.

As far as the sight of gauges issue, I dont see the problem. Its a telescoping, tilt wheel so adjust it. Also whoever said they are avg. height so they should make it as such, remember these cars were designed by the japanese so avg. height would be more like 5'6" im guessing as opposed to 5'11". J/k but im sure its less than 5'11"

Am I one of them?

Somebody has a car, neglects it, gets a "JDM" to replace it. Devolps rodknock, gets another "JDM", followed by BHG. Followed by, this car is flawed. I should go 1JZ.

Go buy a Camaro.

And another thing, some of you need to learn to drive. If you can't get 380-400 miles on a tank, you are the problem.

same, or i have to spend at least 45 mins playing with the tilt/telescopic wheel and electric seat after the mechanic has taken it for a test drive.

things i hate:
gas shocks on hood and hatch, when they fail. hatch shocks are a PITA to get unbolted, having to take off the trim. other than that, the shocks are cool at shows
lock bezels that pop off every now and then
weight, although its good to make it stick to the road; and:
how everything seems to go wrong at once.

meh... i memorized the location of the seat and so on and so forth... takes me 30 seconds...

for the mpg... i get about 30 mpg on the highway

things i hate...

location of oil filter
location of starter
intake routing :icon_evil
stock intake/exhaust runners (very restricitive)
stock exhaust set up
restriction on the stock ct-26 turbine
stock ic
pvc

can't think of much more... but most of the things i listed are easily remedied

However, why the heck did Toyota not put service door for the fuel pump? Maybe I am a dolt and could not see the obvious way to get the fuel pump out without dropping the whole frelling tank. But thats what I did. What a PITA. :biglaugh:

I love my 83 supra. Fuel pump is out of tank :icon_bigg

My gripes; fuel filter location, starter top bolt location,

Nah, 400 miles is easy to get on a tank of gas in a Supra. I've done it many times.

Hellz yeah, we are ftw. :icon_bigg

Dropping the tank is what.... 2 nuts and 3 hoses? Stop bitching about it. lol

Move on to something that actually blows when you have to change it, the heater core. :nono:

Oil filter location is my only prob. Still waiting for the relocator kit to come in.

*edit*
And bitches for the mkII: Lack of aftermarket parts that aren't ridiculously exspensive.

So its not me.

My style of driving isnt to save gas. Me and my friends try and see who can burn more gas getting from place to place with our supras lol.
