wow latly i just been suprised at the supra comunity. many ppl have come for and offered me there parts or great deals. I know i should have done this myslef I just wasn't ready to attempt something this big already. I was juts bvegin to do small things to learn about the 7m(like doing a compression test, taking the throttle body apart and cleaning it, taking off the accordian and ic pipes and cleanign and inspecting them) I also do have whole set of tools.

got back from the shop today. Also have to go to the machine shop to check out the cams and head. well im pretty much left with 2 options here:

1. put everything back together with new cams or head. Though there is a chance the bearings in the lower end could go bad due to the fact the bearings have been sitting in antifreeze. and then I would have to tear it all down again thus costing me even more money.

2. rebuild the bottom end to stock specs.

either way its begin to cost me more and more. things arn't looking too good things are steering towards me going to the bank for a loan. I have had ppl offer me there ct-26 for free just have to pay the shipping so Things should be ok on that part. Need to go to engine shop today then talk to my dad then set out my options figure it out and then go from there.

post pics of the cams. i've never seen 7M cams that WERENT scored up. when i first pulled my motor apart, i thought the same thing, so i searched around, and found that it's quite normal for them to look like mine do.

if there is no rod knock your chance of putting in the bearing and just cleaning up the parts like having the shop mic and polish the crank (around 80bucks).
just make sure your piston is good and the cylinder wall is not scored up.

i went thru the exact same thing like you and i had to rebuild everything myself.
took a while and lots of frustration but i am on the road and going to places.
just take your time if you have a space to store the car let it sit and just work on it when time is free on your hand.

one thing, the supra didnt do anything. your poor planning and unability to prioritize your life has put you in this situation.

just wanted to clear that up.

well got back from the machine/engine shop. He showed me that the cams were pretty badly scorned. along with the top of the vallyes were they lay is really badly scractched up. the bottom part where they lay though is still smooth. sorry i could't get any pics can't find my digital camera. So for now i wait till my dad gets home c what he has to say and then figure out a decision from there.

you have owned 2 7m's and
you are just gathering up the courage to take off the ic pipes and clean out the TB.
i think i did that the very afternoon i bought the car :evil2:
not trying to be a dick but maybe an mkiii isn't for you..
just my opinion dont take it personally.
i'm also in Canada, and not too long ago i picked up a complete JDM head, cams etc. for $250 cad in great shape, so the deals are out there :naughty:
good luck and i hope you can figure out a way to straighten things up.

go to yoru junkyard, get some n/a or stock cams

shop for deals on parts.

and if you can find a ride for the next month come winter break when im off of school i will get some people and drive up there and get your car put together in 4 days. just lend me your couch and we'll get it running. i am SURE there are lots of supra guys that would be willing to lend their hand in putting one more 7m on the road.

just collect the parts. and you will learn more in that car than any other experience you can go through

i did the WHOLE hg process when i didnt know how to drain the oil from engine and at 16 years old. you can do it. just have to love the car enough.

I have a good NA head that has relatively new valve stem seals. 3000-4000 miles. However your head may be good, the cam journals will look VERY BAD and yet still be in VERY GOOD mechanical shape. Unless this mechanic is intimately familiar with Toyota motors and the 7M in particular I would not trust his judgment on this. I have personally seen cam from engines less than 20000 miles look just like engines with 200000 miles. Unless there is actual galling i.e. metal transfer there is most likely no problem.

Wow, dude life aint so bad. In the end its just a car. (Sorry supee you know I love you). Sounds like your luck is slowly changing though. When I was 15 I bought my first car, spent 16k on it B4 I got my license, had it stolen on my schoolies week (year 12 graduation). Got 2k market value insurance for it. Took out loan and bought a nice car when a light pole jumped in front of me and destroyed it as well as half of me. No insurance (long story), Still had 7k owing on loan 7.5k owing on pole and nothing to show all B4 I turned 18. I was farked in massive debt, no health, traineship and no one to bail me out. But hey thats life. So look on the bright side, and just dont stress, it solves NOTHING!

Ow and Kudos to the US MKiii community for helping him out.

I come from a land down under
The term that springs to mind is "Suck it up princess" ;)

It's all part of owning a Mk3 Brett!

When it's all done it's just a car and ALL of the issues you're having are why Dan and I warned you about buying the GTE way back.

Typically they've been owned by boy racers that bought em thinking Turbo=Racecar so they're in sad shape, add to that you took it out and thrashed it daily racing all comers and of course it's going to break!

I'm NOT bagging you but you and your car seem to be following a script we've seen here a lot......

Consider it a character building exercise time to get a part time job and pay the old man back then when you're on your feet think about fast cars.

In debt uneducated with a broken money pit for a car is no way to start adult life.

Incidents like this can never end your life and your future unless you let it. Its just one of those hard times life throws at you to test you and help you develop and grow wiser. All the hardship and obtacles in life are just experiences for you to overcome and prove to yourself thar you are the man!. so just slow down and calm down and write down all ur goals and in order for you to get back on your feet. And remember to work towards your goals.

As for your education you can still do it...Grants, bank loans, loans from parents...there is countless choices for you to make to go to school, fix your supra and build your future...the knowledge is all around you...all over...use it...

Cheers,
Roy
