Make sure you get your old head back. I can't stress this enough.

I know a guy that took his car (not a Supra) in to get a BHG (not a 7M) fixed and the shop told him he needed new or rebuilt heads because the originals were warped. Another buddy of mine told him to ask for his original heads back when he went to pick up the car. When he did that, they acted confused and it ended up being that they didn't even change them. They didn't even order new/rebuilt heads, they just wanted to get the extra money and let him think he had some different heads on there. As you could imagine, the guy with the car was fuming and they ended up cutting well over $1K off the bill.

Don't let this happen to you.
Ohhh don't worry i will of courses ask for my old head. Either sell it on ebay or something or keep it around for a spare and pay the money to get it machined.

Sort of be surprised if they have a 7M head in stock though as our cars just aren't that common Brett!

Make sure they test it for hardness it take 10 seconds and could save a PILE of grief later on!

he already Did phoning around and found me a recondtioned head and yeah they will check it all out. Im not being stupid on this one i want this damn thing to run right already!

and yes mk3 are rare around here too there is one other mk3 in my town a grey pre 89 turbo. I went and made an offer to the guy when i had my n/a wouldn't sell it no matter what price i offered him. He said it was broken and it kept overheating and he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. more then likly had a bhg. Though sopusly it must be fixed now as my friends have seen it driving around. Guess it too my place of being the only mk3 in town as my car is out of commision for the last month or so.....

When you get your "reconditioned" head in, if the cams are in place, pull a cap or two and notice how scored they are. (I'm betting, they are not any more scored than the one you already brought into them.)

I've actually experianced a head that was "wiped" out turn out to run fine. (It did have some excessive feeing movement on the cams, but it did not seem to matter much when the engine was running.) Keep in mind those cam journals are pressure fed, and most of the stress is on the upper caps anyway.
