When you get your "reconditioned" head in, if the cams are in place, pull a cap or two and notice how scored they are. (I'm betting, they are not any more scored than the one you already brought into them.)
I've actually experianced a head that was "wiped" out turn out to run fine. (It did have some excessive feeing movement on the cams, but it did not seem to matter much when the engine was running.) Keep in mind those cam journals are pressure fed, and most of the stress is on the upper caps anyway.
