Ok, so the story goes, I drive to Olympia to by an 89T. I also have a buyer for my 86.5 in the same area. I get there, the guy comes and buys the 86.5, pays cash. Everything good so far. I call the guy with the 89 and he comes and I look at the car. There are some little things I wasnt expecting, but overall its worth the price we agreed on...and if I dont buy it Im walkin' soooooo....I buy the car. Im thinking the Supra Gods are pleased! I gave the 86.5 to a good buyer who sounds like he will take care of it and its got a good home. Also I KNOW the 89t got a good home...all is well right? :icon_surp

WRONG! I was gonna go to Seattle but at the last minute just decided to head back to Oregon. I get maybe an hour south of Olympia and hit a rest stop (gotta exercise the weezl ya know?). Let the turbo cool down, shut off the car, come back 5 minutes later and.....the car wont start! turns over, wont fire. Check for spark at #1...yep...smells like fuel going in the open cylinder too. Im baffled! Checked all the fuses, nada. Check the codes, nada.
Try the security system reset,....yep you guessed it, nada.

OK SO WTF!? :aigo: (of course I called the guy I got it from and told him I wasnt a happy camper...but its not really his fault...shit happens right?)

So, Im sitting there at 9:30 at night in a rest stop with my dog thinkin...Im screwed. Then I see this truck pull in pulling a tow dolly and nothing on it! I figure, hey cant hurt to ask. :1zhelp: This young kid is following his buddy back from Tacoma where they just bought a 71 VW westfalia, and had the dolly for backup (these kids were smarter than me...lol) Turns out they are headed to Newburg (about 45miles from my home) and I asked for the good samaritan moment. They say sure, they can help me out and get me at least that far.

We put the car on the dolly (taking out one of the intercooler pipes in the process :3d_frown: ) and head south. Now after a few minutes on the road I realize Im towing an automatic and Im nervous cause I didnt disco the DS. But I was thinking fuck it, Im planning on a 5spd swap anyways, maybe I'll just do it sooner rather than later. But the whole time I cant stop worrying about it. We got to the newburg exit and I asked the kid..."I dont suppose if I gave you $100 you would take me all the way to Corvallis"? He decides he can do that, but I tell him to pull into the rest stop anyways cause I wanna check the car.

For shits and giggles I tried to start the car...yep you guessed it...It fires right up! I slapped the intercooler pipe back in place, drove off the dolly, gave the kid 50 bucks and my deepest gratitude, and drove home without incident.

I'll get into figuring out WTflyingF happened tonight, later...for now Im glad to have the bitch home. I hope this isnt a precurser of things to come for this car! But hey, at least I still have one NA I know I can rely on. :naughty:

So if anyone has any ideas what caused the gods to be pissed off, and what they did to the car give me your best guess.

^He said it cranked, he had spark at #1, he had fuel. I had the same problem with the 87T. Swapped coil packs and BAM! it started. Weak spark.

...well, it didn't really go BAM! that would be a bad thing...

AAA PREMIUM - never leave home with out it!!!! 100miles tow x 4 per year.... I use nearly all of them every year!! Worth it's weight in gold. Until I've put another 3-4,000 on my new engine/tranny/alternator/injectors,etc and everything goes with no issues I'm not driving anywhere more then 100mi away :)

sounds like heat soak on the coils. gave them time to cool down and boost the spark output again. coild get old and gain resistance and dont work the same anymore. btdt. thinking of goin with msd coils when i replace them since im going megasquirt anyway.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Turbo Supra ownership!! LMAO!

As for what caused the problem...I think it is probably the CPS connector, that's what mine would do, but when i would wiggle the CPS wires/connector, it would start right up.

Heat soak... My previous 7M would not start until around 20 minutes after being shut down... Do a search on heat soak and you'll see quite a few things that you can check out.... Sounds like you still got a pretty good deal.
