Good to hear that fixed your problem. It happens to a lot of people when they try to wash their engine bay and spray down the engine.

I can imagine. I had to remove my strut bar though. That's what broke the old clamp and it was rubbing on the new one

Yea, I've been hearing a lot about that Toyota red vs regular green. My car had green when I bought it. I'd ask what the difference is but I can probably find everything I need to know and more if I searched.

The green coolant has this thing called "silicate" IIRC. Silicate is corrosive and bad for the engine. Plus Toyota did alot of research when making the red coolant. Its the best you can get.

Quick question. A friend of mine has an 87 supra and a 90 supra. He took the 7m-gte out of the 90 and put it in the 87. It runs like shit. Barely revs over 1500 rpm and quickly dies. I was asking him about how he did the swap and he said he just dropped the engine in and kept the 87 ecu and harness. Now I read in the swap section that you need to have the same ecu year as the engine. He has a 90 ecu and engine harness. We are going to swap ecu's and harnesses tomorrow. I'm pretty sure this will make it run but I wanted to double check because I have no experience with 7mgte's let alone ecu's and wiring. His 87 and 90 supras are actually the first other mk3 supras I've seen in person besides my own and I just met him today lol.

I think the ECU dictates the harness, not the engine. the 87 7MGTE and the 90 7MGTE are the same beast (although I think they may have strengthened the block on the 90.. ). If it runs like poop.. perhaps he has some other issue?
Over the 3 years, I just think they strengthened things, corrected things and changed some electronics.. but if you are running an 87 harness with a 87 ECU on a 90 engine.. there should be no issues.

I would be more concerned that you did something wrong during the swap. (as in left off a vacuum line, didn't plug all the wires correctly... flipped injector clips... something silly like that.)

Of course.. I am going on what I have read.. I am not a mechanic and definitely not an expert.

We'll be looking more into it tomorrow. I didn't have a whole lot of time to look at it today but from what I saw the 87 harness was pretty rigged and the vacuum lines weren't all there. I used my car as a reference to connect all the vacuum lines on his. Thought I got them all anyway. That seemed to help it idle better and it idled decent. Just dies when you give it gas and won't go over 1500 rpm.
This might be related to the problem but is the maf supposed to go on the pipe going into the Turbo or on the pipe going into the intake manifold? Right now he has it on the Turbo pipe. Like I said I've never worked on a turbo'd engine before so this is all new to me.

New Question

What is the best under-hood use of the space freed when the battery is relocated to the rear? I thought about a catch can; but I see other's putting that on the firewall.

Ideas?

If I ever relocated my battery I'd just bolt a plastic bin/container where the battery was to throw tools and small parts in while working in the engine bay. But that probably wouldn't look too good if you're car is set up for show or if you don't work on your car almost every other day like I do.

the maf goes on the accordian pipe goint to the turbo. your symptoms tell me that the maf is not hooked up properly. you can google some engine pice to get an idea of where things go.

Thanks for the input. Just downloaded some pictures and I think ill be able to figure this out pretty easily now. Will keep you posted on how everything goes.

I have 2 more questions related to my 87 supra before I hit the hay. will a Turbo intake manifold work on my non Turbo 7m? I hate how big and bulky my intake and throttle body is. This guy has a whole 90 parts car and he will give me the smaller intake manifold and throttle body if it'll work on my car.
His 90 parts car also has tems. Would I be able to take the tems out of his 90 and hook it up to my 87 that never had with tems? Would it be plug and play for the most part?

New question will be quick

I'm ordering arp main studs and rod bolts and head studs

Iv heard you need to get the rod caps and Main caps drilled to fit the arps. Is this true or are the just drop in replacement like I thought they were

Thanks guys

We wired in the 90 harness and the 90 ecu. Its no longer throwing any codes but we aren't getting any fuel or spark. Do we have to wire in the 90 ignition harness as well? There's some clips coming off the 90 harness under the dash that don't fit to anything. We think they are to the ignition

I plan on putting a 2JZ into a MKIII supra, if I upgrade my turbo to a single, designed for 300 - 450 hp, yet still use the factory injectors and fuel pressure, would I have to upgrade the ECM ? I'm just trying to get the reliablility of the stock computer, with the simplicity of the single turbo.

I'm going to be changing the master clutch cylinder this weekend. I've never changed one before. Any tips or advice before I dig into it? I have the cylinder and a bottle of brake fluid. Will I need anything else?
